Surprisingly, AvtoVAZ designers began work on the restyled version 20 years ago, when the goal was to change the design of the 99th model.
Various versions were considered, after which it was decided to remove the obsolete bumpers, replacing them with new ones with rounded corners. VAZ 21015 received moldings thresholds that "poured" into the edges of the wings, as well as an even more pointed and long front end. The image was complemented by a small original wing on the trunk lid.
The new look was assigned not only to the fifteenth model. The pioneers in the new version were classmates of the Sputnik-2 project - hatchbacks 13 and 14 of the model (restyled versions of the VAZ 2108 and VAZ 2109, respectively), after which the announced VAZ 21015 and its subsequent modifications already saw the light. The start of serial production of the new sedan was planned for 1994, but the country was going through far from the best economic times, so work on the unfinished Samara-2 project was periodically suspended due to lack of funding. Almost all the means and forces were spent on finishing work on a fundamentally new car (the "top ten") and gradually began to forget about the new "Satellites". In the end, the development of the VAZ 21015 took more than two years, and in 1996 it was put into production in small batches, and after 5 years the full assembly of the car began on the factory conveyor.
Compared with the "ninety-ninth" VAZ 21015 has become a little longer. The exterior of the car has changed significantly, the interior has been almost completely updated, in turn, the roof, doors and sidewalls remain the same. This tuning of the VAZ 21015 added some characteristic features to the car, namely: a new form of the hood and front fenders, original headlights, stylish taillights with an interesting decorative insert, body-colored bumpers, a trunk spoiler with an additional “stop” mounted, door moldings and original fairings thresholds, an updated trunk lid and new lighting.
There is an opinion that certain design decisions were borrowed from the already mentioned “dozens”, for example, similar points for fixing seat belts, finally, a steering column with adjustments, as well as a dashboard. As for the exterior, here, drawing an analogy with the tenth sedan, we can talk about the license plate located on the bumper.
As for the cost of VAZ 21015, the price of a new car is in the range of 10 thousand dollars.
As power units, one of two gasoline engines is installed on the sedan - 1.5 and 1.6 liters. At the dawn of the VAZ 21015 conveyor production, the car was equipped with a purely carburetor engine, but since 2001 it was replaced by a distributed fuel injection engine. In order to increase its service life and reduce the noise level at idle, the developers provided for an upgraded clutch disc . The car is equipped with a simple on-board system, the indication of which will warn the driver about an open door, maximum wear of the brake pads, oil level, unfastened seat belts and the key left in the ignition. The new sedan is available in standard, upgraded and luxury trim levels.
