Increased fuel consumption is a common problem for motorists. From the very beginning of production, car owners noticed that over time, to overcome the same path, a car needs more and more fuel, which, of course, does not please, it is even alarming. In fact, increased fuel consumption is a serious reason to think about the state of the iron horse.
Of course, it depends on the size of the engine, on its power, performance and even the manufacturer, since some can literally “squeeze” the latest capabilities out of the unit, others use a little more, and still others use less than half the engine’s potential. Consider some of the reasons for the increase in fuel consumption.
The first is driving style. Pretty much depends on this factor. The fact is that many drivers do not pay attention to their driving skills at all and do it without thinking about the fact that you can turn on a higher gear, or vice versa turn on a neutral gear and drive to the corner. Oddly enough, but a change in driving style in a calmer direction can cope with the task, which torments many motorists: "How to reduce gas mileage?" In addition, such events will benefit the car itself, because the load on it will significantly decrease if the number of acceleration and braking, which can sometimes be quite dynamic, decreases.

Increased fuel consumption can also be observed due to a malfunction of some engine components, for example, a carburetor, intake duct, as well as a crank group. The solution to this problem comes down to repair, which in the first case can be done by removing and flushing, with further adjustment, repairing the second and third cases can become expensive, because grinding in valves and replacing pistons or just piston rings is an expensive pleasure that not every car owner will decide .
Another indicator is the idle gas mileage. It is very relevant for owners of cars with carburetor engines, since tuning an injection engine is, in principle, impossible. And where is the car standing, and the engine is idling? For example, at traffic lights. Modern cars are equipped with a start / stop system that shuts off the engine after stopping and starts it on demand, according to the manufacturers, it can save up to a liter of fuel in the urban cycle.
And finally, the most painful procedure for the engine is warming up in winter. The installation of the unit at -20 and warming up to operating temperature is equivalent to 500 km in easy operation. Of course, this does not take more than half a liter, but still.
From the above it follows that increased fuel consumption can be the result of not only one, but also a whole "bunch" of reasons, therefore, its reduction, as a rule, consists of trifles, and not of one event. If the engine began to consume too much fuel, then this is a serious reason to think about its “health” and contact a service center.
