At the end of 2012, the French Renault concern presented to the public its new - second in a row - generation of the legendary Simbol sedans, and this premiere took place as part of the Istanbul auto show. And finally, the car has changed for the better: now it no longer looks like an absurd hatchback with a redesigned luggage compartment. Technical characteristics of Renault Symbol, especially driving performance, amazed many motorists, moreover, the novelty acquired a very attractive appearance. In this article we will consider all the features of the second generation of French sedans.
Exterior
The design of the new sedan, despite numerous improvements, still resembles the appearance of Logan. And all because the “Frenchman” was originally designed on the basis of this particular car. Specifications “Renault Symbol” had a lot of similarities with this car, but we will deal with the features of the second generation a bit later. In the meantime, back to the design. The new generation of Renault Symbol (compared with its predecessors) has found a more attractive grille, as well as beautiful brake lights at the rear. The front lighting was slightly redesigned. Also, changes affected the shock bumper and stamping the hood. As for the sizes, the manufacturer does not report anything about the adjustment of the dimensions, which means that the body remains the same along its length.
Interior
The inside of the new item is practically a copy of the “donor”. There is nothing special to add here, but still it is worth noting the high level of equipment in the basic trim levels. The manufacturer reports that in the new generation of sedans (or rather, in the cabin) there will be a multifunctional steering wheel, a cruise control system, a multimedia system with a large seven-inch touch screen. As for navigation, it will be available only in more expensive trim levels or optionally (at the request of the client for an additional fee).
Renault Symbol-14: specifications
As it turned out, the novelty has a less extensive line of engines than the latest updated Logan. The buyer has to make a choice between three engines: 2 diesel and one gasoline. Among the engines of the latter type, it is worth highlighting a small-displacement volume of only 900 “cubes” and three cylinders (not enough, as for the Renault Symbol sedan). The technical characteristics of this engine suggest that it is capable of developing 90 horsepower. Its 1.4-liter diesel "brothers" develop a capacity of 75 or 90 "horses". As you can see, the novelty has very modest specifications.
“Renault Symbol”, despite the low-power engines, has a very economical fuel consumption: in urban mode, the car spends no more than five liters per 100 km. All 3 power plants can be equipped with a single five-speed manual gearbox. The manufacturer is in no hurry with the development of automatic transmission, and, probably, it will not appear even in the third generation sedan. But nevertheless, the technical characteristics of Renault Symbol are simply ideal for urban conditions, because not every budget sedan can boast such an acceptable expense. And such a sedan costs about 16 thousand US dollars.
