Those who have a house in the country or in the village know firsthand that window openings are better protected from uninvited guests. An alternative to the metal grills that are commonly used for this purpose is shutters. They not only do not spoil the appearance of the house, but also decorate it.
What is important to know?
When choosing products, you need to be able to distinguish between wooden shutters according to some factors:
- A way for easy opening.
- Rack or panel type.
- Type of mount.
- Type of wood.
How can they open?
According to the method of opening, wooden shutters are divided into stationary and oar. Stationary are fixed tightly to the window frame in one embodiment, and in the other - to the wall of the opening. In both cases, there is no way to open them after installation. As a safe option, stationary shutters are very reliable, but from the point of view of their installation and removal each time it is necessary, this option is inconvenient.
Hinged wooden window shutters are sashes. They can be from one to several. It all depends on the width of the window opening and the chosen configuration. "Baby's undershirts" are fixed in the opening to a hinge system, which is specially made for convenient opening and closing the shutters.
If we consider both options, stationary and swinging wooden shutters as a reliable means of protecting windows, then they have the same reliability, but swinging is more versatile. One of the functions is protection against direct sunlight on hot days. Close them and lock at any time is not difficult.
In most cases, customers choose the swing option. Usually it is made of two wings. The stationary option is chosen in case of a long absence. For example, many owners leave the city for the entire winter period, closing the cottage or house especially carefully.
Types and materials
Modern manufacturers make swing shutters on wooden windows (photo above) of the following types:
- Casement.
- Arched.
- "Harmonic".
Choosing the right option, made in the same style as the whole house as a whole, is not difficult for current customers. When choosing, take into account the material from which the product is made:
- Larch.
- Oak.
- Pine.
- Others.
Do not forget to ask the sellers what antibacterial compounds the wooden shutters are treated to: will the wood give in to rotting and damage by harmful insects. You should also check the mounting materials: the hinges will not be damaged by anti-corrosion grease.
There are two mounting methods:
- To the slopes of the window openings.
- On special remote elements that are mounted on the outside.
- Walls.
Board and rack
Panel shutters are a cloth of wide planks, which are made thick and interconnected by metal pins. The rack structure is more complex. This is a frame with slats (lamellas) mounted on it. To make the appearance original, they offer designs with sloping slats. In this case, the sun's rays penetrate even when the shutters are closed.
