Fiat 125 rolled off the assembly line in 1967, and production ended in 1983. The Italian manufacturer preferred to release the car in three versions: coupe, wagon and sedan. Although the car was produced more than 30 years ago, it can still be seen on the streets and on the go. Surprisingly, she was "tenacious".
Externally, the Fiat 125 may resemble a VAZ-2101 (better known as a Zhiguli or Kopek). Differences in appearance are in different lengths of the wheelbase, chassis and suspension. The unit installed on the machine had a capacity of 125 hp, the engine is designed for 1.6 liters, it worked in conjunction with mechanics or a three-speed automatic.
For several years (until 1972, when production ceased in Italy), about 604 thousand sedans were produced. Simultaneously with the "native" version of the car produced a Polish model. She was distinguished by round headlights. After a while, the lineup was replenished with station wagons and pickups, which had the same name "Fiat" 125. The engine of the car from Poland was less powerful.
Production reasons
The reason for creating a new car was the desire of the manufacturer to combine the best configurations in one model, discarding what did not live up to expectations. From various models were taken such details as the hood, bumper, chassis and engine. Thanks to this decision, it was not necessary to spend a lot of money, respectively, and the total cost for consumers was reduced. This is precisely what ensured the success of the Fiat 125 car. In fact, if you look at any photo of this model, it is unlikely that you will be sure that it is a pure “Italian”. Due to the fact that VAZ signed an agreement with FIAT, the car of the latter became a prototype for the Zhiguli.
FIAT 125 Special
A year after the presentation of the original car, a special version appeared. Fiat 125 has become tougher, more stable and tougher. The motor has been changed - more powerful installed. The gearbox remained mechanical. The same version was further modified in 1970. Among the modifications, you can notice the automatic transmission in three stages. These were almost the last and only technical specifications that subsequently changed. All other restyled versions differed only in design.
Similarity to the VAZ-2101
For Russians, the “one hundred twenty-fifth” model will always be associated with a domestic VAZ. However, they are identical only in external signs.
At that time, when AvtoVAZ bought out a license to produce a car, the manufacturer combined the base 124 and 125 of the FIAT model. And so the well-known “Kopeyka” was born.
