Sergey Sukhanov: a heart in the palm of your hand

At the heart of every process should spark a spark - human thought, initiative, talent. If a spark is capable of producing flame, then light arises. Such a light, showing the way, giving life and forever preserved in the memory of millions of people, was a man of unique strength and unlimited possibilities, Sukhanov Sergey Germanovich. The death of the great cardiosurgeon, who put the artist’s subtle soul into the dry science of exact medicine, not only shocked the world - it hit the hearts, and this is not a metaphor.

Sergey Sukhanov cause of death

The beginning of the way

Born in 1953, almost until the very end of school, Sergey Sukhanov dreamed of an artistic career, until he suddenly and clearly changed his life plans, setting himself the very definite goal of becoming a professor of cardiac surgery. The great master was able to achieve his goal, as he understood when he was still a schoolboy, at the age of forty. And before that, thousands of human lives were already painted by his hands of the artist.

The Perm State Medical Institute, brilliantly completed in 1976, opened the way to big medicine for a young specialist. Under the leadership of Academician Evgeny Wagner, the future assistant professor and professor, and then still a simple graduate student, Sergei Sukhanov was not afraid to take the initiative in organizing a new vascular department at the Perm Regional Hospital.

The beginning of a new era

In this period, in the late seventies, the beginning of a new era of cardiovascular surgery, which already firmly and forever includes the name of a little-known, but promising doctor, is marked. It will take years before 20 beds of a modest hospital department develop into a powerful and first-class clinic, but the birth of Wagner’s great and bold idea from the distant fifties has already found its successor.

In 1983, Sergey Sukhanov defended his PhD, and ten years later, his doctoral dissertation. A little more time passes, and the Perm school student’s dream comes true - a professor at PSMA named after Academician E.A. Wagner. S. Sukhanov confirms the well-known principle that if there is a desire, then there will be time for its realization.

First among the first

He does not stop learning, despite the fact that his practice reaches a scope that is still considered unattainable. Endless closed myocardial operations, testing of new methods gleaned from the enormous practice of Swiss colleagues - all this leads to the fact that in November 1995 an event of world significance took place in Perm - surgical intervention on an open myocardium under the guidance of Israeli professor Aram Smolinsky assisted by S. Sukhanova.

That commemorative operation lays a new cornerstone in the development by the Russian cardiac surgeon of a new, complicated method of saving human lives. The stage of independent operations of such a plan begins and quick, unprecedented success - after only 17 years, in only one Perm region, 25,000 open myocardial operations were recorded. By this time, the glory of the institute in Perm had already spread far beyond the borders of the Russian Federation, the name Sergey Sukhanov was becoming a household name in the world of medicine.

Being the most frequently practicing surgeon in Russia, a world-famous doctor also leads the life of an active political figure. As the confidant of President V. Putin, he takes over the leadership of the regional headquarters of voters and brings the number of voters for Putin to a record level of 70%, which is double the previous figures of people's loyalty to the existing government.
