Story

The construction of the Ascension Cathedral was started in 1989, but due to the lack of further funding, it was suspended. Only in 1998, with the assistance of the city metallurgical plant, was it possible to continue the construction of the temple.

Temple near

About 300 city organizations and private enterprises provided material assistance in the construction of the Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Magnitogorsk. Also, ordinary people, future parishioners of the church made their donations.

Despite the fact that the construction was not completed in 2003 at Christmas, the consecration of the main limit took place in the church, and the first festive service was held in the cathedral.

Fire

By this time, the main construction and finishing work in the cathedral building was nearing completion. It only remained to complete the painting of some icons and the interior. The big fire that happened in the temple on December 10, 2003 prevented these plans.

The cause of the fire and the culprits have not been established. The building was seriously damaged by fire. The iconostasis, the main altar and wall paintings suffered. Many icons were spoiled by soot. As a result, the opening and great consecration of the cathedral in the summer of 2004 was called into question.

Holy cross

However, by joint efforts, the restoration of the church was carried out in a short time. All previous interiors were quickly and skillfully restored. The schedule of services in the Magnitogorsk Church of the Ascension was not violated. So, on July 16, 2004, on the day of the 75th anniversary of Magnitogorsk, he was solemnly consecrated and open to parishioners.
