The first samples under the UAZ-450 index appeared back in 1957, then under the UAZ-452 index the production of the modified version began (it happened in 1965) and, finally, in 1990 the UAZ-3909 appeared, called the Farmer. With all the upgrades, changes were made to the design, somehow affecting the technical characteristics, but, despite this, the car was always perceived as a “loaf” (slang name). In Soviet times, such a car was not available to the general population, and then, with a fairly wide selection of imported cars, it turned out to be unnecessary. However, there remained a certain contingent of consumers for whom such a car is still of interest. First of all, these are rural residents and, in particular, the traditional "loaf" was later modernized under them, which later became known as the Farmer.

But on the other hand, despite the lack of comfort, he is able to move in almost any conditions, carrying passengers and cargo.

In the cargo compartment, separated from the passenger compartment by a partition, there was room for four hundred and fifty kilograms of cargo.
