Just about the complex: how does a computer work?

I believe that since you are already reading this article from an Internet resource, it means that you are familiar with a device such as a computer, have seen it, and imagine what it looks like.

Have you ever thought about how a computer works? Indeed, in addition to such, of course, important components, such as a monitor, system unit, keyboard and mouse, there are also components that can be seen only by looking inside. This is a video card, RAM, hard drive and processor.

Although if you do not have the necessary knowledge, then I would not advise you to open the cover of your system unit or unwind the monitor. Firstly, something can be irreparably broken, and secondly, you still don’t understand anything.

I suggest starting with a purely theoretical knowledge.

Section 1. How does a computer work? Imagination, gentlemen, imagination!

So, I think, we have already decided that no one will try to pick out and dismantle the system unit so as to better get acquainted with its contents.

How else?

I propose to imagine a drawing. Not some masterpiece of world painting, but rather something like children's doodles. A desk with pull-out shelves, on which stands our computer, consisting of a monitor, system unit, keyboard, mouse, and, perhaps, we will add a couple more columns. Well, presented? Now, next to all this, portray a little man, in this case, yourself. Are you done?

Now I’ll tell you a secret: this little man is actually a very, very powerful dual-core processor like INTEL (or ATLON). Although it is possible that it is not dual-core at all ... In this case, it is not so important. A logical question arises as to why the processor Yes, because this device, like the brain of a modern person, is capable of calculating in advance thousands of different operations. This is a kind of brain, but how to work with a computer without a brain? No way!

Move on. The monitor shown in our virtual drawing will be a video card. The surface of the desk will turn into RAM, but the drawers of the table will replace us with a hard drive, also called a hard drive. Now we’ll “connect” everything to the motherboard (well, in our case, to the base of the table). Are you done?

It is by this connection principle that the device works.

Section 2. How does the computer as a whole and each of the components separately.

We return to our drawing: you are sitting at the table, i.e. you’re a processor plugged into a motherboard, and your room is nothing more than a system unit.

Enough imagination?

Imagine a situation when a regular average user arrives, presses the power button. A signal arrives to the processor (i.e., in this case, to you), and it is included in the work.

If the user wants to watch a movie or open some necessary document, he will send the corresponding signal to you. You will climb into the drawer of the table (i.e., into the hard drive) and dig out everything you need there.

The RAM runs thousands of times faster than the processor, it speeds up the process of finding this or that information. It really resembles the surface of a table and allows you to store everything you need in sight, and not to climb every time in the drawers of the table, thereby spending time and energy.

It seems to me that now everyone who is eager to find out how a computer works, will justifiably ask, why then need a hard drive if it takes a long time to extract material from it.

The thing is that a hard disk with a significant amount can be considered as a kind of storage. Think yourself, what is the surface of the table compared to all the free space that the drawers contain? In addition, the RAM cannot work without a constant supply of power, so you just need to disconnect the computer from the network, as all the saved information will be transferred again to the hard drive.

Section 3. How does the computer work? Conclusion

Now to summarize. So, everything inside the computer is controlled by the processor, it processes all the data stored here and the data necessary for work. RAM is needed in order to speed up the processor. Winchester is a kind of information repository.

The video card, as you probably already guessed by yourself, is necessary for the user to see everything that is happening on the monitor. The better and higher its parameters, the, respectively, and the picture quality will be better.

The sound card, which in our virtual drawing was represented by columns, is responsible for all sounds on the PC, thereby freeing up CPU time for processing other data. It is impossible not to say that now in most cases it is already built into the motherboard.

How a person learns to work on a computer, not knowing all of the above. We breathe and live, although not everyone is aware of how the lungs or heart are arranged . That's the way with the PC. Can. That's just for some, perhaps boring.
