Often on the Internet, one can notice the reasoning of users about what all the same advantages the Tiger hunting rifle has. But users often do not take into account the fact that initially the design bureau, in particular, the engineers, did not set themselves the task of creating the ideal sniper rifle.
What is it about? How do you understand the meaning of the word “ideal”? You need to look at it a little from a different point of view, not stereotyped. It is enough to recall that from the very beginning this rifle was not positioned as a means (mind you, it says in general, not even about a possible specification of a weapon) for firing offhand.
Introduction
The Tiger rifle was built on the basis of the SVD sniper rifle. During the development, unique technologies were used that helped to obtain at least unique weapons that solved not one or two tasks, but their wide range. The rifle is also intended for use by civilians.
From military to civil
Agree that weapon modifications are very popular in our country? We are talking about traumatic models, for example. The same Makarov’s pistol, Tokarev’s pistol , the design of the Kalashnikov assault rifle and machine gun, which are embodied in the civilian version in the Saiga-12 and Vepr-12 carbines. Yes, frankly, alterations of military weapons are popular not only in Russia.
Let’s do a little digression along the way. As you know, some models of weapons (both domestic and foreign), due to mechanisms and structures modified over time, have become simply unclaimed. In simple terms, weapons are morally obsolete. The army no longer wanted to use such models, since new models appeared that successfully passed field tests and literally overshadowed their predecessors in terms of tactical and technical characteristics.
Accordingly, the choice remained not so rich: either let the old models of weapons go into recycling, or somehow recycle them, and then put them back into operation. The first option was, according to experts, very expensive. But the second way could be more advantageous.
Thus, it was decided to remake combat models into civilian counterparts intended for self-defense. So, in fact, the first traumatic pistols appeared. We have this, for example, the MP-371, as well as the Leader pistol, remade from the same old, good, but morally outdated TT. In these types of weapons, it should be noted that the barrel is often replaced by a simulator.
Here is the same story observed in the case of the Tiger model. The rifle, the price of which is about 50,000 rubles, is currently a hunting carbine designed to some extent for hunting.
Perhaps with us it’s just the mentality of the nation. Although in our country in such a class it is quite difficult to find sane models of hunting weapons. That is why alterations of military weapons in Russia are appreciated.
Why are Russian carbines good?
Of course, it’s impossible to call home-made carbines ideal. But can any weapon be perfect? No: each model has its advantages and disadvantages. But what can be said unequivocally is that hunting carbines developed by domestic engineers are very, very reliable weapons.
This, in turn, became possible thanks to the design worked out to the smallest details. It is precisely such strengths that attract our fellow hunters, unobtrusively forcing them to make their choice in favor of Russian weapon models.
Imported weapons produced by Western companies have always been not just complex, but overly complex in terms of construction. And for some reason it seems that they will continue to be so. The West loves all sorts of “bells and whistles” to use in the manufacture of weapons. For us, on the contrary. Practicality and reliability come first, and beauty comes to the fore.
SVD. Rifle "Tiger". History of creation
Many experts who know a lot of interesting things about weapons often make jokes about the famous three-ruler. For example, such a plan. If a soldier fell into the river M-16, it will cease to shoot. The AK-74 fell - so it can be lifted, cleaned and fired again. But if the three-ruler fell into the water, then it can be used as an oar.
The joke, of course, is somewhat outdated and simple, but in today's topic this should be considered precisely as a fact. The three-ruler was an excellent weapon in terms of reliability, however, in light of the release of the SVD, it simply lost its popularity. And fast enough. The debut, if one can call it that, the Dragunov rifle took place in 1963.
There are a lot of quite interesting facts in the history of the creation of SVD, but we will not consider them in this article, since it is not dedicated to the rifle of Evgeny Dragunov, but to its hunting modification. What, in principle, will be discussed further.
Brief description of the “Tiger” rifle
This weapon is, as mentioned earlier, a hunting modification of the legendary SVD. The caliber has not changed at all: all the same old good 7.62-mm cartridge. However, the cartridges used as ammunition in the Tiger missile system are equipped with half-shell bullets.
The weight of the bullet is about 13 grams. Note the fact that cartridges are labeled as follows: “7.62x54R” and “7.62x53R”. The technical passport of the model can tell the user that the rifle is intended for hunting events, the purpose of which is a large and medium beast. Recall that the Tiger is a rifle whose price is around 50,000 rubles.
The descent of the "Tiger" from the conveyors
The first copies of the “Tiger” were released back in the late seventies. Evgeny Dragunov, of course, led the development of weapons. Currently, there are two variations of the carbine: with a standard name (sniper rifle “Tiger”), as well as with a numerical addition (“Tiger-1”). The latter variation was developed taking into account American requirements for weapons, that is, for the most part it is intended for export to the United States and European Union countries, rather than for use in our conditions.
