The first holiday of the Savior

The first celebration in honor of Christ the Savior is celebrated annually on August 14. This holiday was established in honor of the origin of the trees of the Holy Cross. And to this day, particles of this relic, which have miraculous powers, have been preserved. Currently they are stored in Constantinople, in the church of Hagia Sophia. Cases of numerous healings, the cessation of epidemics and disasters that have occurred due to these particles of the Cross are known. This Spas is an Orthodox holiday that falls on the very first day of the Assumption Lent. Therefore, cheerful celebrations are not allowed. On this day, neither meat dishes nor dairy dishes should be eaten. Traditionally, this Spas is called honey.

This is due to the fact that during this period the cells are filled with fresh honey, which can already be enjoyed. Also found is the name of this holiday, as "poppy". There are two reasons for this. In accordance with the first, such a naming of the celebration is associated with the maturation of poppies in Russia. According to the second version, the name was influenced by the fact that on the same day the martyrs of Maccabee, the Old Testament saints, are mentioned.

Second holiday Spas

This celebration is celebrated annually on August 19 together with the Transfiguration of the Lord. Therefore, such a feast of the Savior is the most significant of all, because it belongs to the twenties. On this day, it is allowed to eat apples. According to ancient customs, it was considered a sin to try these fruits earlier than this day. In addition to apples, people traditionally bring other fruits and grains to the church to illuminate them with holy water. The celebration of Apple Savior lasts for nine days. During this period, it is customary to go on a visit, give apples, and also prepare various dishes from them, and make preparations for the winter.

Third Feast of the Savior

The last of the celebrations falls on August 29th. It is also called β€œdozhinki”, as at this time the collection of bread ends. There is such a name as β€œNut Spas”. The history of the holiday in this case is associated with the fact that by this time the nuts are ripe. There is also the name "Savior on the canvas", which is due to the fact that on this day the transfer of the Holy Face of the Lord is marked. History dates us back to the distant days when Jesus Christ still lived on earth. To heal one person, he sent a towel to the sick person, with which the Savior wiped His face, as a result of which His image remained on the fabric. Barely touching the canvas, the sufferer was healed of his illness. These stories are related to the origin of the ancient holidays of the Savior. Many celebrations and proverbs are also associated with these celebrations, because they have become truly folk celebrations. May God come with you!
