Educational institution with a rich history
The very first attempt to create this educational institution can be attributed to the distant 1505. It was then that Vladislav II, the current Lithuanian-Polish king, signed his decree on the creation of a higher university in Wroclaw. But, unfortunately, that time was characterized by constant conflicts and wars taking place in the territories adjacent to Wroclaw, and this idea was launched. Instead of a university, just a school was opened in 1638, and on its basis in 1702, the Order of the Jesuits, according to the decree of Leopold I (the Roman emperor), opens a university called Leopoldina. The official opening took place in 1702, November 15.
The University of Wroclaw has learned many changes before becoming the educational institution it is today.
After the famous Seven Years' War, he lost his anti-reformist form and, by and large, simply became the highest school for the German Catholic clergy. In 1811, another reform was taking place in the field of education, and today's Wroclaw State University began to bear the name of Friedrich-Wilhelm. At that time there were 5 faculties in it: philosophy, law, medicine, Catholic theology and Protestant theology.
Post-war reforms
Dramatic changes in this educational institution came after the end of World War II. After the war, today's city of Wroclaw was transferred to Poland. The German university operating on its territory, of course, was immediately closed. On its basis, the new Polish State University of Wroclaw was opened. Its official opening took place in 1946, on June 9.
