The issue of changing the fleet for the leaders of the Union arose by the beginning of the 90s of the last century. The "Seagull" was morally obsolete at that time, so it was decided to adopt a new, more restrained model. That was supposed to be the GAZ-3105.
The Union, as you know, broke up, and the new flagship did not take root - the car was produced only 4 years. From the point of view of technical features, the GAZ-3105 (photo of the car today can be found only on specialized resources) is of particular interest, since at that time it was the highest class of the domestic automobile industry. Four-wheel drive, an eight-cylinder gasoline engine made of aluminum alloy cylinder heads, a contactless ignition system, stability stabilizers, aluminum alloy wheels, ABS - you must admit, a good set for a domestic car of the early 90s. The choice is not available to everyone.
The car was equipped with a mechanical five-speed gearbox, made in a block with a front axle and
center differential, which at the same time has a common oil bath with them. The clutch is single-disc, its feature was that when you turn on the clutch moved from the engine. Front and rear brakes - disc, with "floating" brackets. Yes, another detail, the Volga Gas-3105 is the first machine for which a power steering with rack and pinion gear was provided.
The steering column has adjustments in both height and tilt, and is also equipped with an energy-absorbing element.
The layout of the engine compartment of the GAZ-3105 is dense, which made it possible to increase the free leg space in the front. The rear sofa is lowered to the rear axle and pushed back - compared with the model 31029 this made it possible to make the interior longer by 3 cm. In addition, the rear seat also has adjustments for the angle of the backrest. There are heated and electric seat settings. The climatic installation of the cabin combines the functionality of an air conditioner, ventilation and air heating. There is no need to talk about the acoustic installation - for a car of this class, this, of course, is not a luxury. Dimensions GAZ-3105 - similar to the "twenty-ninth" model with the exception of a slight difference in width. By and large, both models are equally comfortable and roomy, the same applies to the luggage carriers of both models.
All of the above applies to the production model of the GAZ-3105, however, it should be noted that the flagship had a huge number of pre-production options. So, for example, the
first cars were equipped with side windows below the line of the belt, and some variants were produced with a plastic grille.
At the dawn of the launch of the GAZ-3105, it was presented to the public at international motor shows in Brussels and Leipzig, where it made the best impression on foreign guests. However, the country considered that the mass production of this machine exclusively for government circles would cost too much. That is why for 4 years of production (from 1992 to 1996) the plant produced only 55 cars, instead of the previously planned volume of 250 cars per year.
