RAM is a computer random access memory (RAM)

RAM is a special type of memory. It stands for “random access memory”. RAM is one of the main elements of a computer. The quantity of tasks that can be simultaneously launched on your PC or laptop depends on its volume and speed.

RAM is
The RAM area stores information that is necessary to maintain the running program. Therefore, such a parameter as speed is very important for this device: information changes during operation constantly, programs often access memory, write and read information. How quickly this information is able to change, and determines in many respects the comfort of working with programs. If the RAM has insufficient speed or volume, the programs “slow down” and “freeze”.

The main feature of RAM is its volatility. This means that the information in the cells is stored as long as there is power. In case of power failure (even short-term), all information is reset (disappears). So RAM is a temporary storage of current information.

RAM and ROM
To eliminate the consequences of power outages, most user programs have an autosave function, which after a certain period of time records all the necessary data in a specially allocated sector of read-only memory (ROM). If necessary, data from the ROM is loaded into RAM. Autosave is not the only option. As a rule, there is a forced save, which is implemented differently in different programs. In most cases, it is performed as an icon in the command bar or a button in the menu.

statistical RAM
In general, a combination of two types of memory, such as RAM and ROM, solves the problem of working and storing all the necessary information. RAM is characterized by high speed, but has small volumes and is volatile. ROM works many times slower, but it has a large capacity and the possibility of long - term information storage.

RAM can be of two types: static and dynamic. Dynamic RAM makes it possible to repeatedly overwrite information, but requires frequent renewal (approximately every 15 milliseconds). Static RAM stores recorded data all the time while power is on, and does not require rewriting.

Physically, RAM looks like a chipset or modules with chips. They are usually connected to the system board. RAM can have various characteristics, and when choosing it, care must be taken about compatibility with the installed system. Typically, the box in which the motherboard was sold indicates the types of memory that can work with this model. From the RAM of this type, you need to choose the best option.

If problems began to arise during the operation of your PC, for example, programs load for a long time and freeze during operation, then one of the reasons is the lack of RAM for too many running programs. There are only two ways out: run fewer programs at the same time, and if this approach does not suit you, then buy more RAM.
