Childbirth. How much energy does it take a woman to have her baby born. In fact, as a result of this process, a young mother may have tears in the perineum, cervix, and vaginal walls. It is worth noting that such damage is most often characteristic of women who first give birth after thirty-two years. However, in this case, it all depends on the mood of the woman in labor, the help of qualified employees and the course of childbirth.
Gaps in childbirth can be life threatening to the baby and mother. Such damage includes, for example, uterine rupture. As a result of such damage, urgent hospitalization and cesarean section are required . If we talk about external ruptures, then they heal quite quickly, in this situation it is only required to put a few stitches. As for uterine rupture, in a similar situation, doctors are trying to save both the mother and the baby. However, most often the baby is unable to survive.
Specialists divide all breaks of the so-called perineum into two groups. These are external and internal damage. The first group includes tears of the lower third of the vagina itself and the perineum itself. Internal can include ruptures of the cervix during childbirth.
Almost every fifth woman in labor receives any damage to the perineum during childbirth. All women are exposed to them, regardless of the number of births and age. The reasons for this development of events are too high the crotch, its poor extensibility, large baby, pelvic presentation of the baby, edema and inflammatory processes in the birth canal, prolonged labor and much more.
Most often, damage occurs at the moment when the baby’s head passes through the birth canal. In addition, it was at this point that an experienced obstetrician-gynecologist can quite easily determine the probability of damage purely visually. As a result of strong tension, the skin of the so-called perineum becomes pale and shiny. In such a situation, it is possible that specialists will decide to produce an episiotomy or perineotomy. This means that a woman will cut the crotch at the place of tension, since such damage is much easier to sew up, and it heals faster than an ordinary gap. There will be practically no scar, or it will be very smooth.
Perineotomy is a small incision from the anus to the vagina. If an episiotomy is performed, then the incision is made slightly away from the midline. It is much safer than perineotomy. The fact is that as a result of such an operation, the incision simply can simply continue along the course of labor to the anus. As for the anatomy of this area, it is much easier to sew up damage of this nature.
Gaps in childbirth are sometimes classified in three degrees. The first is accompanied by minor damage to the posterior wall of the lips of the vagina and mucous membrane. The second degree is the presence of ruptures of the muscles of the perineum and vagina. As for the third degree, here the gaps in childbirth also concern the walls of the rectum and anus.
As soon as the baby is born, tears are detected by the obstetrician-gynecologist, as they are always accompanied by some bleeding. So-called catgut sutures are placed on them . The doctor will remove the stitches on the fifth day, when the mother and child will be prepared for discharge.
It is important to properly suture the resulting gap, since otherwise there is a high probability of hematoma formation. If the wound is not closed, a large and rough scar forms in its place. It will interfere with a woman in having sex with a partner in the future, deliver a lot of discomfort, and so on. Ladies who received similar injuries as a result of the first birth are prone to such breaks in the future.
The doctor may make an emergency decision to cut the perineum, even if there is no risk of rupture. The causes of this behavior can be a pelvic presentation, premature birth, fetal vacuum extraction and much more.
Gaps in childbirth - not a cause for concern. The main thing is to properly care for a while over the area of damage, treat it with special solutions.
