Description and Shrines
The history of the Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Yekaterinburg begins at the end of the eighteenth century, namely in May 1770. In the fall he was already consecrated. The temple is the only surviving church building, made in the late Baroque style. It is also one of the oldest churches in the city. The monastery is well located on the Ascension Hill - the highest point of the village. Next to it is the estate of the Rastorguev-Kharitonovs. It is this temple that witnesses a tragic event: the tsar's family of Nicholas II was shot here in 1918.
Locals say that many years ago, on the site of the Ascension Church in Yekaterinburg, there was the summer residence of General Tatishchev, who was one of the builders of the city. The cottage was built at his request. The house was called "general's," and the mountain, then still nameless, was called General's.
There were many icons in the temple, some of them were in silver robes, and some were decorated with gems. One of the most revered icons was the image of the Virgin, "All Who Sorrow of Joy," which was copied from the miraculous icon. In addition, other precious objects were kept in the Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Yekaterinburg: an altar Easter cross made of stones and pink jasper decorated with topazes; Gospels in silver covers decorated with gems; a silver cross with the image of Jesus Christ made of turquoise; silver chalice weighing more than one kilogram and other valuable items. All this was taken out of the Orthodox church by the Soviet authorities. Now a particle of the relics of St. Simeon of Verkhotursky is stored there.
Construction history
Initially, the Church of the Ascension in Yekaterinburg was wooden, but soon it fell into disrepair. A stone church was built on the other side of the street. And on the wooden site is now the chapel of the Martyr Elizabeth Feodorovna. The temple had two floors: the first in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, the second - the Ascension of the Lord. His beautification lasted about eighty years. In the nineteenth century, it was repeatedly completed and expanded; the first floor of the building was given over to a male parish school.

Initially, the bell tower was three-tiered and tetrahedral, then a bell tower with 8 bells was built. By the beginning of the twentieth century, the temple became very extensive, with six aisles. But in 1926 the Ascension Church in Yekaterinburg was closed. Now there is a seven-year school. After it housed the local history museum. And only in 1991 the temple reopened for believers. On the day of the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, the first major worship of Christians was held, called the liturgy. Currently, the rector of the church is Bishop Eugene.
