A self-made shotgun is one of many avid hunter gadgets. Firstly, some users make homemade shot just for fun. Secondly, this process can significantly save, without losing at the same time on the quality of the material.
Fine shot casting
To make a do-it-yourself shotgun for small shots, you need a heat source, a thin-walled metal box (for melting lead), a water tank and a stand with a chipper. Before processing the battery racks, they must be cleaned of oxides by tapping with a file or a screwdriver.
Cooked lead is placed in a solid container, stored away from residential premises. In a metal box on the seam between the end and the bottom, holes of small diameter are made. The lower this indicator, the better the manufacturing process of the required product will be. The stand with a chipper is mounted with the calculation to the point of falling lead drops of the order of 15 mm.
Main process
Further manufacture of a do-it-yourself shotgun for fine shots is carried out in stages:
- Take a glass or metal vessel in the form of a jar, a volume of 500-1000 ml.
- Fill this container to the brim.
- This tank is placed in a saucer or plate to collect the liquid displaced by the shot.
- The distance from the edge of the chipper to the water level in the tank should not exceed 20 mm.
- Lead particles weighing up to 100 g are loaded into the box, after which the heater is turned on.
- After the feedstock begins to melt, lightly tap on the edges of the box with a screwdriver or a wrench.
- As soon as lead begins to drip through the prepared holes, the angle of inclination of the chipper is adjusted. Drops should fall on its upper part. In this case, the fabric on the chipper should be constantly wet.
Recommendations
In the process of making do-it-yourself shotguns, the photo of which is presented above, it is necessary to exclude excessive heating of molten lead. Pieces into the mass are immersed so that there is no sudden cooling of the workpiece during the flow of the mixture.
It is also not recommended to load lead in large portions, since this is fraught with an increase in the liquid level and its subsequent leakage. This is undesirable since the temperature of the lead mass can drop sharply.
The resulting fraction is advised to unload from the receiving tank from time to time in order to prevent deformation of the lower elements.

The next method is to obtain a drop of molten lead under pressure of its entire mass. From a crucible, droplets roll in a uniform flow. A wooden block covered with felt is taken (width - 60-70 mm, thickness - 10 mm). Its length should correspond to a similar indicator between the internal parts of the walls of the vessel. The part is fixed due to friction between the walls, which makes it easy to adjust its position. During the casting process, it must be ensured that the felt is wet at all times.
Working holes in the tank are made closer to the edge. After punching the first nest, pour the mixture, determining the number of the fraction. Then make the remaining holes, changing their diameter according to the desired caliber of the fraction. How to make a do-it-yourself shotgun? The drawings below will provide a more detailed understanding of the design features.
Fraction Production
The crucible pan is installed on the fire source, the holes should be tilted towards the casting fraction. While lead is melting, the opening in the container must be blocked with an awl. When the molten mixture has accumulated enough, it is necessary to remove the lock and gently knock the sides of the crucible.
In a self-made shotgun, it is necessary to regulate the flow. As soon as the lead drains, the hole must be immediately plugged with an awl. Otherwise, flow irregularity or the formation of sintered lead plaques may occur. In the vessel, the fraction should not sink to the bottom, but into a small mesh bucket (colander). It can easily be made from an aluminum spoon. This device is convenient to sift the marriage and maintain optimal water level.
The final stage
Finished fraction using a sieve sorted. After sifting and distribution by numbers, the material is rolled in a special roller. Additional processing allows you to remove solid impregnations from lead that have fallen into the composition during melting.
At the final stage, you will need to shake and polish the fraction in a jar or bottle. Graphite powder must be added to the container. As a result, such a fraction practically does not differ from factory analogues both externally and in terms of slaughter parameters.
We make a large fraction
The drawing of a do-it-yourself pellet mill presented below demonstrates the design optimal for casting large pellets. In the process, stock up on a bucket or similar with a capacity of 10-12 liters. In addition, a tin-sized tank is required. Holes with a diameter of 0.4 mm break through it with an awl. The jar is placed in a bucket and is fixed on extensions.
A large tank is filled with cold water, on top of which diesel fuel is poured. Lead is placed in a small jar, and diesel fuel is set on fire in a bucket. The further process is simple: you need to gradually add lead and add fuel. The distance between the small tank and diesel should not exceed 50 mm. The average size of the fraction at the exit is “00”. The smaller the diameter of the working hole, the smaller the grains will be. It is worth noting that in an hour it is quite realistic to produce about 5 kilograms of finished cartridges.
Features
How to make a do-it-yourself shotgun, discussed above. The following are some useful tips that will come in handy in this process.
- The drop-shaped fraction weighs more than a spherical analog with the same diameter.
- Optimum casting speed is ensured with a thin layer of molten lead mixture above the die.
- The molten mass should be poured in circular motions to avoid premature mixing and solidification of the mass.
If cable lead is used for casting, it is necessary to add a battery analog to it, since the first option is extremely soft.
