Gennady Belov - an artist with an unusual voice

Belov is one of the most famous artists of the USSR, remembered for his songs and especially gentle voice, as well as the ability to take high notes, owning the award “Honored Artist of the RSFSR”.

The famous Russian artist was born on November 2, 1945 in the morning in the heart of the country, in the capital Moscow. In 1960 he graduated from a textile college and after that he began to work as a master in a factory called “Red Rose”. His first performances were held there.

Later, after many spectacular concerts, Gennady Belov, whose biography was just beginning in his work, was sent to work on television in one notorious broadcast. After a good release on the Central TV channel, his talent was noticed. Belov was offered to be the leading singer of the All-Union Radio and TV song choir.

After 13 years, in 1973, gaining knowledge at the State Institute of Theater Arts, he became the main artist of the Moskontsert. At 38, Gennady Belov managed to collaborate with numerous famous composers, arrangers such as Alexey Mazhukov, David Tukhmanov, Vladimir Shainsky, Evgeniy Ptichkin. He gained special popularity thanks to the compositions “Thrush”, “Herbs, Herbs”, “Dawn-Sorcerer”, “This Big World”, “Noisy Bread”, “Hello, Mother”, “Starry Sky Song”. Especially in those years the composition “Good” was well received, its characteristic feature was the unusual rhythm and manner in the song.

In 1973, Gennady Belov became one of the main nominees for a significant competition of the time (international youth competition) in the capital of the Republic of Cuba in Havana, and later took part in the 9th and 10th International Youth Competitions in Berlin. On Central Television, the Moskontsert artist presented the songs of the laureates of the Song of the Year television contest several times.

Creative crisis

In the late 1980s, Gennady Mikhailovich felt a crisis in his work. Like some of his main colleagues in the workshop, Belov’s new songs didn’t work out very well, since in the eighties, composers rarely wrote such compositions for a high voice timbre. Gennady Mikhailovich’s voice was lyrical, calm, tremolating, very soft and bewitching. The beauty of the voice captivates a person who has decided to listen to his songs. Gennady Belov sang and was able to clearly and peacefully present himself, was distinguished by the ability to beautifully musically phrase and could perfectly pronounce verses, and therefore make a person think.
