When studying at a higher educational institution in exceptional cases, a student can arrange academic leave (AO). Its provision has its own specific rules. They are regulated by Order of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation No. 2782 of 11/05/1998. It gives not only a definition of the concept of AO, but also the basis and procedure for its receipt.
The grounds for obtaining AO
The reasons why a student wants to get AO should be good enough. The decision is made by the rector of the educational institution, so there must be good reasoning that is designed to convince management of the need for temporary suspension from studies.
The grounds for applying for administrative leave are:
- medical indications (including pregnancy);
- other exceptional cases.
The last reasons include:
- family circumstances;
- a trip abroad for educational purposes;
- natural disasters (floods, hurricanes, war, etc.);
- passing practice, which is not provided by the curriculum of the university.
Family circumstances
Family circumstances include the following situations:
- Maternity leave (provided for the care of a child whose age is not more than three years). It should be borne in mind that if both parents, father and mother, are students, then both of them can pretend to take AO.
- Care for sick relatives in a situation where there are no other family members nearby.
- Unforeseen financial difficulties.
Also worth noting is the reprieve from the army. If academic leave at the university is taken for the first time, then the student has the right to receive temporary suspension from study.
Documents for registration of academic leave for family reasons
The provision of academic leave to students is not possible without the submission of relevant documents stating the reason. The latter should be indicated in the application, which is submitted to the dean of the students for consideration by the rector. In this case, it is necessary to attach documents confirming the difficult situation.
If academic leave at the university is taken to
care for a child, the student must give a copy of the birth certificate. If you need constant supervision to any close relative, then you should show a certificate from the appropriate
medical institution. It should indicate not only the diagnosis of the patient, but also the need for daily care. It is also recommended that you attach a certificate of family composition, according to which it will become clear that the student is the only person who can look after a relative.
Documents for applying for academic leave due to other circumstances
If you take academic leave at the university, the reasons for it are the deterioration of the financial situation and the inability to pay for tuition, then an appropriate document must be submitted. If the family income has sharply decreased (for example, due to job cuts), then you need to show a certificate of family income.
If a student takes academic leave at the university for the long-term treatment of an illness, then this reason should be confirmed by a medical certificate from the clinical expert commission.
Obtaining education abroad should also be confirmed by relevant documents, due to which a temporary interruption of studies is carried out.
If it is decided to obtain an AO, then all documents should be carefully prepared. They should be framed correctly and correctly state the essence of the issue. This is precisely the main aspect of the consideration of a request with a positive decision.
The nuances of academic leave
AO students can take both full-time and part-time students. After receiving a positive decision on a temporary interruption of studies, a certificate with information about the courses taken, lectures, seminars held, grades for exams and tests is issued. Having this document in hand, a student can recover at another university for a similar specialty.
Making student leave is not possible if he has any arrears in passing exams and tests. During interruption of studies, a hostel is not provided, a scholarship is not awarded.
If a student is studying in a paid department, then no money will be charged for academic leave. If a large amount was previously paid, then it is transferred to the next course.
Academic leave lasts, usually 12 months, but can be increased if necessary. For all the time of study, AO is provided to the student once.
