Today, many know the current president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani. However, they completely undeservedly forgot about his predecessor, who is a very charismatic and expressive person who made a rather significant contribution to the development of this large and influential Muslim state in the world. This article will examine the life and activities of the former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. It is about this policy that we will talk in more detail.
Birth
Ahmadinejad Mahmoud was born on October 28, 1956 in a village called Ardan, located near Hermsar. The father of our hero was Talysh. However, there is an opinion that Mahmoud is an Iranian Azerbaijani by birth. And Britain’s influential and highly respected print edition of the Daily Telegraph says that he is Jewish, and his real name is Saburijiyan, who is a noble family in Iran, and supposedly relatives became Islamists and changed their name after the birth of Mahmoud. However, a little later, the famous and respected orientalist Meir Jawendanfar made a sensational publication in which he completely refuted all rumors about the Jewish origin of the Iranian politician. It should be pointed out that his dad was a blacksmith and professed Islam, as evidenced by his teaching in various schools of the Koran. Mother of Mahmoud generally belonged to the descendants of the prophet Muhammad, that is, is considered to be a seyyed.
Education
In 1976, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose biography is given in this article, became a student of one of the most prestigious universities in his country - Tehran University of Science and Technology. A few years later he graduated from this institution and received the qualification of a transport engineer.
As a student, the Iranian worked very actively with the youth anti-Shah movement. Together with his fellow students, he published a journal dedicated to a religious subject. After the deposition of the Shah, Mahmud, studying at that moment in his third year, immediately entered the ranks of the conservative Islamic structure called the Organization for Strengthening the Unity of Universities and Theological Schools, which was created by Khomeini, the leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979.
In 1986, Ahmadinejad Mahmud began postgraduate studies, and 11 years later successfully defended his doctoral dissertation.
Rumors
There is information that was confirmed by the first Iranian president, Banisadr, stating that Mahmoud was involved in the seizure of several hostages at the American embassy in 1979. But, as the former captives themselves and participants in the special operation to release them say, the hero of the article did not take part in these tragic events. According to other sources, the Iranian allegedly insisted on an attack by the embassy of the Soviet Union, however, these rumors were not substantiated in practice.
Military service
In 1980, the future sixth president of the Islamic Republic of Iran voluntarily went to war against Iraq. He was enlisted in the Special Forces unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, a battalion of which was stationed in the western part of Iran and committed various sabotage in northern and eastern Iraq.
The beginning of a political career
Having resigned from the army, Ahmadinejad Mahmud held senior positions in the administrations of the cities of Khoy and Maku, located in the province of Western Azerbaijan. Somewhat later, he served as adviser to the head of the province of Kurdistan. Between 1993 and 1997 the Iranian was the governor of Ardabil and at the same time the first assistant to the Minister of Education and Culture of the country. After Khatami became president of the state, Mahmoud again became an ordinary university teacher.
Return to the political arena
Six years later, in 2003, municipal elections were held in the capital of Iran. They elected a new mayor of Tehran - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Heading the main city of the Islamic country, he immediately stopped the overwhelming majority of the ongoing liberal reforms carried out by his predecessors. He issued a decree closing all fast-food establishments, and ordered men who are government employees to wear and in no case shave off beards and long-sleeved shirts.
Presidential election
In the summer of 2005, Ahmadinejad Mahmoud, in the second round of the presidential election, outran his main opponent in the person of the then current President Khatami. And four years later he was re-elected for a second term. Moreover, during his tenure as the main person of Iran, assassination attempts were made on him twice. In 2005, they tried to kill him in the provinces of Sistan and Balochistan. And on August 4, 2010, his motorcade, traveling around the city of Hamdan, was bombed, but the president was not injured at all, and the attacker fell into the hands of the police. At the same time, several passers-by were injured.
Steps in Foreign and Domestic Politics
On June 26, 2005, Mahmoud made a very loud statement, which indicated the need to make the state’s oil industry very transparent and the most profitable. He also wanted to review all existing oil production contracts that were signed with foreign corporations. In addition, the president very much wanted to achieve a redistribution of income from the sale of "black gold".
In early 2007, the politician conducted a tour of the countries of South America, where he met with leaders, just like him, opposing the US president. Mahmoud spoke with the leaders of Venezuela, Nicaragua, Ecuador. And in the fall of 2006, Ahmadinejad signed 29 agreements with Venezuela on the creation of joint ventures in the oil industry, engineering, metallurgy, and pharmaceuticals. To ensure funding for all planned projects, a special stabilization fund was created in the amount of two billion US dollars. In January 2007, Mahmoud reached an agreement with Chavez on Iran’s investment in Venezuela of three billion dollars over three years. In exchange for this, Hugo guaranteed to protect the right of the Islamic state to develop nuclear technologies in the international political arena.
Relations with Israel
Once in the chair of the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, whose completion of his political career was in 2013, immediately began anti-Israeli politics. This was manifested in many of his public statements, extremely saturated with negativity in relation to the Jewish country. In particular, an Iranian politician stated that:
- Israel should be completely destroyed.
- The Holocaust is a fabrication, and even if it did take place, it is exclusively against the Palestinian population.
- The territory of Israel must be fully returned to the Palestinians.
- The Jewish state supports fascism, racism and apartheid.
- Those Islamic leaders who continue their cooperation with Israel simply do not realize what danger this interaction poses to Islam.
- The Jewish power should be moved to where there is more space - to Europe, and even better to Canada.
- Germany and Austria are obliged to pay compensation to Israel, not Palestine.
Relations with Iraq
In March 2008, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (what he is doing now, it will be indicated below) arrived in Baghdad with a two-day visit. This trip of the Iranian president was called truly historic, since he was the first to come to Iraq as head of this state after the end of the war between these neighboring countries. Concluding the business trip, Mahmoud signed a number of contracts in the economic sphere.
Attitude to the attacks of September 11, 2001
During the UN General Assembly, which was held in September 2010 in New York, Mahmoud said that both terrorists and representatives of the American administration could be involved in the destruction of the twin towers. Allegedly, they sought in this way to stop the decline in US economy and increase their political influence in the Middle East in order to protect the Zionist regime. In response, the American delegation left the conference room, and the State Department completely christened the statements of the Iranian president as disgusting and delusional.
In response to this, Mahmoud suggested studying the records of the “black boxes” of the aircraft that were used to carry out terrorist acts. Also in his opinion, the reaction of the President of the United States only confirmed the fact of involvement of the American intelligence services in these crimes against residents of the United States.
Political sunset
In the spring of 2012, parliamentary elections were held in Iran, which were convincingly won by representatives of Ayatollah Khamenei. And this, in turn, only meant that the supporter of Mahmoud suffered a crushing defeat. In addition, in the 2013 presidential race, Ahmadinejad no longer had the right to take part, since he spent two terms in this post, and the third was banned by law. As a result, on June 15, 2013, Hassan Rouhani became the new head of Iran.
After leaving the presidential cabinet, on August 3, 2013, Mahmud moved to his home in the city of Narmak.
Literally two days after this, Ahmadinejad, on the basis of the order of the supreme leader, entered the Council of expediency.
Today
Many people know who Ahmadinejad Mahmoud is. “Where is the former Iranian president now?” Is a question that interests many people. It is reliably known that after the end of his presidency, he returned to teaching and even wanted to head Tehran University.
In the spring of 2017, Mahmoud wanted to run for president of Iran again, but his candidacy was rejected by the State Supervisory Board.
But in fairness it is worth noting that Ahmadinejad to this day is a very influential person in his own country. He is also considered the most consistent supporter of rapprochement with the Russian Federation and stands in the position of absolute distrust of the Americans.
