How is the stabilizer strut replaced?

The stabilizer bar is an integral element of the suspension of each car. And if, while driving on an uneven road, your iron friend began to make strange noises in the area of the front wheel arches, this suggests that this spare part became worthless. If you do not make timely installation of a new part, probably in a week you will also need to replace the stabilizer bushings. But it is possible that this spare part will fail along with the rack. Therefore, do not ignore such symptoms of a malfunction.

Instruments

In order to make a quality replacement in a garage environment, we need a whole set of tools. Before work, you should prepare a jack, a screwdriver, a set of wrenches, grease and a special spray WD-40 to remove rust.

Car preparation

To begin with, we should install the machine on a flat asphalt surface (it is best to call on a viewing hole if possible). Then turn off the engine and put the vehicle in gear. For reliability, apply the parking brake. And one more thing - if the stabilizer struts are replaced in front, be sure to lock the rear wheels with wheel chocks, and install safety supports in the front. Similarly, this is done with the rear struts, only in the reverse order.

Step-by-step replacement process

First we need to unscrew the wheel, otherwise we will never get to the rack. We remove the bolts with the help of a spray can and set the part aside. If rust is found on the nuts, spray the surface with WD-40. This drug will eliminate traces of corrosion, thereby facilitating our work. Then, unscrew one rack nut on each side of the car. We dismantle 2 bolts of the brackets on which the rod and the stabilizer bar rod are held . We remove the bar with racks from the mounts.

Next, we need to take another tool. In order to successfully replace the stabilizer struts, when removing the fastening nuts, you can use a wooden hammer to remove the part from the stabilizer. If this is not the case, its function can be replaced by a metal counterpart, but it’s very easy and accurate to hit the parts with it. Next, remove the rack and check it for deformation. When the spare part is curved only slightly, it is permissible to align it and reinstall it without buying a new one. If you cannot restore the previous integrity of the part, it is better to replace it. It is advisable to change the stabilizer pillows. The same goes for worn bushings.

Replacing Stabilizer Struts: Last Step

And now we put everything in place. The nuts of the brackets should be tightened until the clearance in the pillows is completely eliminated. The bar with the new rack (or restored old) is installed in the same place. And so that the bolts themselves do not loosen while riding, grease them with grease. Install the wheels and remove the wheel chocks. Everything, at this stage, the replacement of the stabilizer struts is completed.
