Undergraduate and graduate - what is the difference?

For ten years now, Russia has been participating in the Bologna process, which is focused on harmonious convergence of higher education systems in European countries. After the signing of the Bologna Declaration in Russia, there was a reform of the higher education system and a gradual gradual transition to a two-tier system. Undergraduate and graduate programs are the two steps that the higher education system now consists of.

Undergraduate and graduate courses

In Russia, undergraduate and graduate programs correspond to generally accepted education systems in Europe, which undoubtedly raises the value of diplomas of Russian higher educational institutions in the issue of employment both in Russia and abroad. In addition , the bachelor can apply for a master's program in a different profile, in another university, in another country. This does not contradict the rules and is quite welcome, as well as admission to the magistracy after gaining work experience.

The opinion that the bachelor's degree in Russia is an incomplete higher education is considered incorrect. Both the undergraduate and graduate programs are complete higher education, differences arise during employment in serious responsible positions. So, for example, both the bachelor and the master will gladly accept administrative work without special responsibility. And in the case of production work and high responsibility, preference will be given, rather, to the master. However, legal masters in Russia produce those cadres whose qualification level allows them to be hired as judges or prosecutors, in contrast to legal undergraduate studies, and this plays a role in the eyes of students - now they receive education in accordance with their plans and ambitions.

Bachelor in Russia

Of course, this situation does not only occur in the training of personnel in law, it is a common practice. The fundamental level of training without a narrow specialization is bachelor's degree, and master's degree is available only to bachelors, and graduate school - only to masters.

After dividing the higher education system into steps, employers have questions about the level of qualification of applicants, but in most cases, the experience and personal qualities of yesterday’s students decide everything. It is important to understand the line between a bachelor, a master and a specialist - everyone is a professional, everyone has a higher education. But a bachelor after graduation is a theorist without highly specialized knowledge (but with a specialized education), a master after graduation is a theoretician with a decent bag of highly specialized knowledge. The specialist leaves the walls of the university as a good practitioner with the necessary highly specialized knowledge, skills and abilities.

Master of Law

It should also be noted that after the adoption of the Bologna Declaration, the minimum time for obtaining a higher education was reduced. You can become a bachelor after passing four years of study, which means that you can go through graduate studies in parallel with working in your specialty.
