Teething in children: timing, sequence, possible problems

Teething in babies often begins at the age of about six months. However, even if this process is a bit late, you should not worry: the difference in terms is quite possible. In a sufficiently large number of children, teeth “come out” later, and in some - earlier, already in three to four months. Sometimes babies are even born with one or two teeth! If the child grows and develops normally, there is no reason for panic - this is most likely about the individual characteristics of the body. Otherwise, the late appearance of teeth may be one of the symptoms of rickets - accordingly, the child needs a certain treatment. Normally, by the age of two years, he should already have grown 20 teeth. There is a certain order of their appearance: first, the front lower incisors, then the upper, lateral, upper, then lower, first molars (molars, “fours”), fangs, and only then the second molars (“fives”). However, this sequence may be disrupted: for example, in some babies, teeth on the upper jaw erupt at first. In the vast majority of cases, a change in the order of teething in children is not a sign of any developmental disorders. However, it is worth paying attention to the pediatrician.

In most cases, teething symptoms cannot go unnoticed. The child becomes restless. He often whimpers, pulls toys and fingers in his mouth. The baby has strong salivation, appetite may be impaired - swollen, inflamed gums prevent him from sucking normally on his chest or nipple. In some children, teething is also accompanied by an increase in temperature, sometimes to significant numbers. In this case, you should call a doctor: the baby’s body during this period is quite vulnerable, and it can easily “catch”, for example, SARS, the symptoms of which can be taken by parents for signs of teething. It should be understood: normally this process should not be accompanied by a runny nose, reddening of the throat and other symptoms of a cold, as well as vomiting or diarrhea.

Teething in a child can be facilitated with the help of special toys, which are called teethers made of harmless silicone or plastic. Hollow inside, they are filled with water and frozen in the freezer. The cold reduces pain and eliminates the discomfort that torments the baby - the child will readily gnaw such toys. It is better to have several teethers, they should be boiled in turn.

The kid can also be given sliced apples or carrots, crackers and hard bagels - you only need to make sure that he does not bite off a too large piece and does not choke. The child will grind solid food with gums to cope with unpleasant sensations - this will facilitate teething. Special pharmacy products - dental gels will also help (here are their names: "Calgel", "Dentinox", "Baby gel" and others). However, their choice should be approached with caution: judging by the reviews, in allergic children they, more precisely, the fragrances and dyes contained in them, can cause a rash. In addition, most of these drugs include lidocaine. Therefore, they should be used, perhaps, only in those cases when teething teeth severely torment the baby, preventing him from sleeping normally. You can also try to alleviate his condition with the help of homeopathic rectal suppositories “Viburkol”: they include components that have a calming, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. The fever is brought down with paracetamol - a syrup or suppositories, which are put at night.

However, in many cases, teething occurs calmly and there is no need for medicines. This process may not cause serious discomfort to the child, and often parents discover the first tooth only during feeding, accidentally touching it with a spoon.
