BMW 525 - Bavarian legend

If you ask the first person you meet on the street what German brands he knows, then everyone will name three giants of not only the European, but also the global car market: Mercedes, BMW and Audi. It was among them that battles for customers were constantly being fought. It was they who introduced the latest technology in their designs. Cars have reached such a class and level of quality that it is rather difficult for other brands to compete with them. We will not go into details, but talk about the BMW 525. This model was popular with more than one generation. Only a few distinguish BMW markings. So, if the nameplate “BMW 525” is fixed on the trunk lid, this means that the car belongs to the fifth series, and under the hood it has a 2.5 liter engine.

525 began its life back in 1972, when the first generation of the 5-Series was released. A new era started with it, because at the same time Mercedes introduced the W124, and Audi presented the Model 100. So, both competitors have sunk into oblivion, and the genus of the 5th series is still ongoing. The first generation made a splash. The main priority of BMW engineers has always been an ideal axle weight distribution. So, it became the reason for excellent handling, despite the rear-wheel drive. In addition, already in the first generation, aluminum was integrated into the suspension parts, which allowed to reduce the mass of parts without loss of strength. Thus, handling has become a key aspect that has excelled the BMW 525 over its competitors throughout its production history.

Now consider the power units that were installed on this model. We decided on their volume. Now it is worth noting that the configuration has also become a tradition: the engine consisted of six cylinders arranged in a row. The first generation was equipped with a 150-horsepower engine, which consumed 10.9 liters of gasoline. I must say that for that time it was a worthy result. For such a motor, a 4-speed manual was nominally offered, and a similar automatic machine was optionally available. In addition, disc brakes were installed in a circle .

The power of the BMW 525 E34 was raised by 20 horsepower compared to the previous generation, and now it was 170 horses. The number of mechanical steps was increased to 5, and the automatic transmission remained unchanged. This, without a doubt, added dynamism to the BMW 525. Performance has become much better. For example, consumption was reduced to 9.5 liters, and acceleration to 100 km / h now took only 9.5 seconds instead of 10.2. In general, progress is evident.

The third generation of the 5-Series was initially completely devoid of such an engine, only in 2000, the new BMW 525 was released. Owner reviews suggest that the quality of this particular model is superior to all others. Now under the hood was a “herd of 192 horses”. At the same time, consumption remained the same, even slightly decreased: 9.4 liters per hundred kilometers. The machine has finally acquired the fifth step.

The apotheosis of the "five" was the body of the E60, which had a 197-horsepower engine. Here, comments are superfluous, since the reputation of the brand is known to everyone. I must say only that all gearboxes have 6 steps. In addition, the consumption was reduced by two liters, compared with the previous generation. Now the car burns 7.4 liters. Not bad!

BMW 525 is not just a car, it is a cult model that glorified the “Bavarians” along with the 325th.
