Modern music is represented by all kinds of performers and bands. Various directions occupy a special place, the existence of which sometimes admirers of this art form simply do not know. An example is “Stigmata” - a relatively new band in the music arena. Formed in 2000, it remains in demand to this day. In this article we will try to get to know it better.
What is “Stigmata”?
This is not a religious phenomenon. According to one of the members of the Denis collective, the name was chosen based on their conditions of readability, harmony and easy memorability. It is worth agreeing, this is important. The rock band, which appeared in St. Petersburg, combined the styles of alternative metal and metalcore - trends recognized in narrow circles.
Becoming, finding yourself
For five years, the team has been studying the most suitable style. At the same time, a group including soloists Denis Kichenko and Taras Umansky performed with concerts in the northern capital along with other groups that had already gained success among the audience - Genome and Amatory. Music label "Trap Records", engaged in non-standard areas, invited the team to record their debut album. So in 2004, the “Dream Conveyor” appeared. The group went to the first round, and also won the opportunity to perform together with the NAIV team at the ISTHMUS festival. During this period, the first fans, fan clubs and interviews appear. Journalists are asking a question about what constitutes a “Stigmata”. This, as the soloists assure, is the alternative metal underlying, to which they add drive and acoustics.
The main thing is not to stop
The guys adhere to this rule in their future work. They are completely absorbed in music: new songs, rehearsals, recordings ...
Since July 2005, the group has been busy with the second disc, later called “More Than Love,” and six months later the concert DVD “Pieces of Life” is released, which includes, in addition to songs, backstage filming, a video of the personal archive, and interviews. In the same year, drummer Nikita gives way to Philip, who transferred from Perimeter. In the updated composition, the team continues to work.
New opportunities
The group releases individual singles, participates in the annual alternative music award and has not yet been selected outside of St. Petersburg. The songs “Stigmata” are played on the back of other bands, the rock festival “Wings” offers to play on the same stage with “Alice” and “Pleymo”. In 2007, the team became interested in Navigator Records, which offers the recording and release of the third studio album, named after the group. Perhaps this is one of the best albums, which confirms the large circulation, millions of downloads on the Internet and positive feedback from listeners and critics. “Stigmata” - a group that organizes a large-scale tour in neighboring countries, finds fans not only at home. At the end of the tour in St. Petersburg, the last concert is later released in a separate release.

By 2009, small changes were taking place in the group again: new ones replaced the guitarists. The team presents the record “My Way”, followed by a title clip. Noting the changes, journalists are attacking the team with the only question: “What has the Stigmata now become?” This is a more saturated and dynamic sound, deep texts and interesting arrangements. The group does not stand still, constantly improving, trying itself in something new, which, of course, cannot go unnoticed.
Until 2012, the group toured, including the Far East, Siberia, Belarus, and also performed a lot in Moscow clubs and at festivals, including “Neighboring World”, “Invasion”, “Windows” .. The song “September” first gets a rotation on “ Radio Maximum ”.
Subjects of songs - on real events
Until September 2012, “Stigmata” releases the singles “Up to the Ninth Step” and “Kamikaze”, and also shoots clips on them. Later there is a presentation of the disc “Based on real events”. A year later, the team goes on a tour dedicated to the 10th anniversary of creative activity. At concerts, soloists give the audience the opportunity to choose their own compositions.
To date, the group has not released any more albums. But she tried herself in the acoustic version, giving concerts in two Russian capitals. Perhaps the next record will be sustained in the same vein. It remains to wish creative success, because “Stigmata” is a group that is considered to be a worthy representative of its direction.
Metalcore: founders and successors
“Stigmata” has incorporated an extensive genre connecting several directions: hardcore punk, alternative and extreme metal. Music not suitable for everyone! But you can be sure that she has a lot of fans. This genre - metalcore - originated abroad with such bands as "Earth Crisis", "Integrity" and "Sepultura". It is characterized by leisurely and sometimes slow losses, which adds to the sound of gravity and brutality. At concerts, this can be accompanied by a mosh, which is a special dance with aggressive movements to the beat.
