The most famous educational institution in Russia is Moscow State University. The branch in Sevastopol was opened in March 1999. The decision to create an educational institution was made by the mayor of Moscow and the rector of the university. Additionally, the opening of the university was discussed with the government of Ukraine. The purpose of the founding of the branch was to improve Russian-Ukrainian relations, to restore a single information and cultural space of the CIS.
In the first year, the school did not even have its own building. Entrants passed entrance examinations in one of the city schools, and the educational process for 120 enrolled people was organized at the head university. Only a year later, a branch of Moscow State University received the building of the former Lazarevsky barracks.
School today
Almost 20 years have passed since the opening. Today, a branch of Moscow State University is a modern and sought-after educational organization. More than 800 people study here. Classes are held in the educational and administrative building and the scientific and laboratory building. The auditoriums have the latest demonstration and computer equipment. The Moscow State University branch in Sevastopol has a structure provided for by the Academic Council of Moscow State University. It includes 2 inter-faculty departments - foreign languages and physical education and sports. The main structural units are the faculties:

Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science
In the structure of this faculty, 2 departments were created - applied mathematics and programming. These units have not been operational since the opening of the branch. They were created in 2001. For almost the entire period of the department’s existence, they trained mathematicians and system programmers. Students studied in the specialty "Mathematical and Software of Computing Machines".
Since 2011, the departments offer "applied mathematics and computer science" - the direction of undergraduate. Students, studying a wide range of subjects, are prepared to solve scientific and technical problems, system programming, IT project management.
Faculty of History and Philology
This structural unit has existed since the opening of the branch. It combines 3 departments - history and international relations, journalism, the Russian language and literature. Each of them is responsible for the release of certain specialists. The first department provides training in the direction of "history". Students gain knowledge about the past of their native country and other states. University staff also teach art history, source studies, Latin, English and Arabic.
The Department of Journalism has the responsibility of training journalists. Studying in the proposed area is very interesting. During the training, creative meetings and master classes with professionals from the field of journalism are held. In their free time, students write their first articles, make photo reports, and take part in the KURS FM radio program.
An equally interesting program is offered by the Department of the Russian Language and Literature of the History and Philology Faculty - “Philology”. At it, students receive fundamental humanitarian knowledge that allows them to work in the field of education, in politics, in the field of culture and art, and in business in the future.
Faculty of Economics and Management
The name of this unit indicates the existence of 2 departments in its organizational structure. The Department of Economics offers an economic education. It is considered promising and prestigious. With an economic education, graduates of the MSU branch work in credit, financial, insurance institutions, and state and municipal authorities.
The Department of Management implements training in "state and municipal government." There is also a management program. People who choose it are taught by teachers from both departments.
Division of Natural Sciences
The Faculty of Natural Sciences consists of 3 departments:
- physics and geophysics;
- geoecology and nature management;
- geography of the ocean.
The very first department, working in the structure of the branch since 1999, implements one educational program of undergraduate studies - “physics”. It focuses on practical training. For students, many classes are organized in the laboratory building. The remaining departments provide training in "geography". This is also the direction of undergraduate. It opens the way for students to work in the field of geoecology, geoinformatics, and cartography.
Psychology faculty
