The Morphine group is founded primarily by Mark Sandman. Prior to that, he played the guitar as part of the Treat Her Right blues-rock ensemble. His project was largely experimental. The musician was interested in what would happen if the bass guitar was replaced with the usual one. Morphine recorded their first album, Good, in 1991. It was published on Accurate Records. The press kindly responded to this work. Soon the team became interested in a large company Rykodisc. Just a few months later, they signed a contract with the musicians. In 1993, an album was recorded called Cure for Pain. He is considered the undisputed masterpiece of the group. The 1995 album Yes became easy and available for broadcast. Listeners noted that the music has become more transparent and brighter. 1997 album Like Swimming was recorded with DreamWorks Records. The popularity of the group grew. The video for the song Early to Bed was nominated for a Grammy. The compositions Have a Lucky Day, Buena and Honey White sound in the film "There is nothing to lose." Two years later, the group began creating a new album called The Night. John Medeschi, an organist, and Jane Scarpantoni, a cellist, participated in the recording. In 1999, Sandman went to Italy to play several concerts with Morphine. The musician unexpectedly dies directly on stage. The reason for leaving life was a heart attack. He was 46 years old at that moment. In 2000, two collective works were published: the Bootleg Detroit live album and The Night studio. The first work was composed of 18 well-known musical compositions of the group. In 2009, Rhino Records released At Your Service, which includes unreleased material from the band. Separate praise was given to the critics by the ā€œvotingā€ saxophone played by Collie, as well as Sandmanā€™s lead slide bass and lyrics inspired by beat generation poetry. Morphine later recorded the album Cure for Pain. Some compositions from it sound in the independent painting ā€œEmancipationā€. Separate attention also deserves the album Yes. The author of almost all the compositions of this disc was Mark Sandman. The exception was only one entry.

Leader

Morphine was created by Mark Sandman - an American singer, composer, inventor of musical instruments and multi-instrumentalist. He was born in 1952, September 24th. This man became the leader of indie rock. Sandman is known for its characteristic baritone. He was also distinguished by an acute reaction to speculation related to privacy from the media, charismatic and mysterious behavior, which was expressed in its complete unpredictability. He was called one of the most qualified and underrated bass players of his time. Using a signature two-string bass guitar, the musician created an unusual dark and slow sound. He later used this technique in the work of his group and won the approval of critics. The future vocalist was born into a Jewish American family. Comes from Newton, Massachusetts. He graduated from a local university. I tried myself in various jobs. He was engaged in construction and commercial fishing, was a taxi driver. He traveled outside of New England, in the countryside of Colorado. She was later chosen as the setting for Sandman's Morphine songs. Two tragic incidents affected the future life of our hero, and later on his musical works: his two brothers died, injured in the chest with a knife when robbed in a taxi. Subsequently, the described events became the basis of one of the songs. The musicianā€™s mother later wrote a book about the loss of her sons. Little is known about the personal life of our hero. Fans believe that often the musicianā€™s songs are autobiographical. However, there are still no direct confirmations of this theory. Sandman hid his age and did not like the journalists who tried to call him publicly. It was assumed that the musician was worried because he was several years older than most of the indie rock figures of the 1990s.
