The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (FizTech or MIPT), whose faculties regularly graduate from a huge number of qualified specialists, is among the most prestigious educational institutions that are engaged in research activities. Here are trained future professionals in the field of applied mathematics, physics, chemistry, biotechnology, computer science and other disciplines of this kind.
Story
This university was founded in the 50s of the last century. At its origins stood such famous scientists as Lev Landau, Pyotr Kapitsa and others. The foundation of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology is a unique system, which, according to the founders, was the most suitable for mastering certain sciences in full.
Over the years of the MIPT's existence, university faculties have graduated Nobel laureates, astronauts, world famous engineers and inventors. In 1995, he received the status of a state educational institution. And at the beginning of 2000, the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences adopted a resolution regarding the integration of education and science in the preparation of specialized personnel.
What is the PhysTech system?
At MIPT, faculties of various kinds have been working on its principles for decades. They were formulated by P.L. Kapitsa, and they look like this:
- students should be trained in their specialty by scientists of basic institutes using modern technical equipment for training;
- work should be carried out with each student individually;
- from the second or third year, each student is obliged to take a direct part in scientific activity;
- after graduation, he is obliged to be able to use and know research methods in theory and practice, as well as have sufficient engineering knowledge to solve certain technical problems.
Description of the MIPT educational system
The faculties of the university have their own system, according to which a combination of such things as:
- fundamental education;
- classroom work without homework;
- engineering disciplines;
- attracting students to research work on the basis of industry institutions.
It is worth noting that the number of academicians and corresponding members from the Russian Academy of Sciences in the teaching staff of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology is much larger than in any other Russian university.
School Information
It is important at admission to find out at the MIPT which faculties and specialties are most suitable for you or your child-applicant. All of them are aimed at training specialists in various scientific and technical fields.
On the basis of the university there are various forms of training and preparatory courses that take place at the correspondence physical-technical school of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. Faculties and specialties of the institution help to obtain a bachelor's or master's degree.
The university itself is located in the Moscow region, the city of Dolgoprudny.
University specialties
An important question will be what are the faculties at MIPT. Below is a list of them:
- Aeromechanics and flying equipment. This unit of the university appeared in the 60s with the aim of training qualified personnel in the field of aerospace transport and not only.
- Aerophysics and space research. Here you can get specialties that are related to mathematical modeling, astronautics, new technologies, mechanics and much more.
- Biological and medical physics.
- High technology and innovation.
- Nano and other technologies.
- Problems of energy and physics. This faculty has a thorough cycle, it contains all the modern specialties in this area, including applied ones.
- General and applied physics.
- Humanities.
- Radio engineering and cybernetics and others.
Admission Terms
At MIPT, faculties and passing grades are interconnected. For a particular department, they may differ slightly. They can also vary from year to year, depending on certain circumstances or requirements.
For example, take 2013 and some faculties of MIPT. The passing score in most of them is 275 in the first wave and the same in the second. So, to enter the specialties associated with innovation and high technology, they should be recruited almost 300, a similar situation with nano and biotechnology.
In the admissions committee and on the website of the educational institution, you can clarify more relevant information about the passing points for admission in 2016.
For future doctors
There is a faculty of biological and medical physics at MIPT, which trains specialists in the field of the most promising professions of the future - bioengineering, technology and biological physics.
Its structure includes departments, whose employees help students to learn the features of certain areas. In particular, such as:
- molecular physiology;
- systems biology;
- biophysics;
- biomedicine;
- physics of living organisms;
- molecular cell technology and many others.
FMHF
At the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, the Faculty of Chemistry combines molecular studies of various objects. A large number of specialized areas are presented on its basis. The Faculty of Molecular and Chemical Physics combines disciplines that are somehow related to modern natural sciences. Objects and organisms are studied here, from cosmic plasmas to molecules.
A lot of graduates of this faculty take an active part in the research and scientific work of the RAMS and RAS, are at the helm of industrial companies and are engaged in high-tech developments.
FMBF
Another faculty, similar in discipline to the previous one, molecular and biological physics, was formed in the 90s. To date, he has combined 15 graduate departments. Like many other faculties at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, he concentrated on the work of academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine also teach here.
He provides training for students in such areas as:
- low temperature physics;
- information technology in biology and medicine;
- ecological problems;
- fusion control;
- composite materials;
- quantum chemistry and chemical physics;
- molecular-level electronics and more.
The basic departments that are part of this faculty are located not only at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, but also in many specialized institutes, including the Russian Academy of Sciences, research institutes and others.
For IT professionals
There is a faculty of cybernetics at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, which is combined with radio engineering. He, like the whole university, prepares masters and bachelors in applied sciences. A key feature of this unit is the obligatory combination of a deep and detailed theory with detailed experimental training. All this is an indisputable condition for the formation of a student as a highly qualified specialist, able to offer innovations and be able to implement them in real life.
Such skills are widely in demand in the field of information technology and not only. Innovation is needed in medicine, and in business, and in economics, and in management at various levels. The diploma awarded at the end of this faculty is recognized by large companies not only in Russia, but also far beyond its borders.
Here students can choose the following disciplines:
- computer networks and communication systems;
- satellite and mobile communications;
- navigation systems;
- space monitoring;
- neurocomputer industry;
- optical information technology;
- management of technical and economic systems and much more.
Reviews of students and graduates
Like any other university, some of the students like MIPT, but not so much to some. Many students after graduation were able to find a good job, someone needed additional education. It all depends on the department, faculty, teachers. Many factors depend on the student himself, first of all, on his zeal to study.
However, if we turn to reviews on the Internet, then the key advantages of this university, its students and graduates call the possibility of a fundamental study of certain disciplines, as well as the fact that during the training they get the opportunity to work in promising areas of activity that will be in demand for more than a dozen years.
They note the disadvantages of this educational institution. So, most of them believe that the program is overloaded with unnecessary disciplines. In addition, the level of teaching is far from ideal in all subjects. Especially with regard to research methods.
Also, some believe that the program is not well thought out and changes too often. Others are dissatisfied with the small number of sports grounds, but they note that there are more than enough other sections and circles.
Among the positive reviews are student cohesion and mutual assistance, good preparation in English and other languages, and high quality teaching.
University graduates can not always find a job purely by profession, especially in the scientific field it is not always easy to find. Those who graduated from an educational institution in areas related to information technology are much easier. If they are professionals, then they are in demand not only in Russia, but also abroad.
