Fog Lights: Features and Benefits

Currently, more and more car owners are installing fog lights on their cars using LEDs. This is a significantly progressive step, since such a technology is part of an energy-saving system that is gaining momentum. A good example is the universal fog lights made of LEDs. They can be used in the daytime as daytime running lights. With this use, fog lamps are an additional passive safety source.

LED fog lights reduce energy consumption by 10 times, which means they increase the life of the unit. In addition, the undoubted advantages are the low level of heat, a significant range of colors. The reliability of such headlights is confirmed by increased demand from customers. The light spot has clear boundaries, therefore, in fog, the light beam will spread along the road. The luminous flux will have exactly the same direction under other difficult conditions, such as rain, snowfall and more. It should also be noted that the rear fog lights and fog lights at the same time can be turned on only in a few cases: in fog and in conditions of limited and insufficient visibility.

Fog lights using LEDs have a significant advantage over xenon headlights, as they do not dazzle oncoming drivers. In connection with all of the above, we can safely say that LED headlights are universal.

How to install fog lights?

An important factor will be the rules of the road, which spell out the rules for installing such headlights. On the so-called "cars" it is allowed to install only two "foglights" that are equipped with yellow or white reflectors. Such headlights should have a symmetrical arrangement along the longitudinal axis no further than 400 mm from the side marker lights, and also not be placed below 250 mm from the level of the roadway. In addition, fog lights should not impede the spread of light from other vehicle light sources.

The electrical circuit of the fog lamp connection should be able to turn on simultaneously with the side lights, as well as license plate lights. No less important is the angle at which the headlight will be installed. Therefore, it is better to entrust the installation of headlights to a qualified professional who will adjust the most comfortable and non-contradictory traffic regulations position of the headlights.

However, it must be remembered that not all LEDs mounted in the bumper can be called fog lights. Many motorists confuse real β€œfoglights” with daytime running lights, which can be installed side by side, and sometimes instead of fog lights. Such lights are perfect for marking a car on the roadway during daylight hours, however, they are of little use in conditions of limited visibility.
