Timing belt "Daewoo Nexia" is one of the most important elements of a car engine. Replacement is carried out strictly according to the maintenance card. Be sure to check the vehicle mileage and the list of items that need to be replaced. It is these data that are important. But the frequency of replacement depends on various parameters - such as the motor, the age of the car. The older the car, the greater the wear and tear of the engine as a whole. Therefore, its components and assemblies need more frequent repairs.
What else needs to be changed?
For example, on eight-valve engines, replacement should be carried out every 40 thousand km. In addition, it will be necessary to change elements such as timing rollers and a pump. By the way, the latter is involved in the gas distribution mechanism only on cars assembled after 2008. On them, the belt tension is changed using a pump. Therefore, if in doubt about the condition of the pump, it is best to replace it.
Regardless of which motor is installed on the machine, the list of replacement parts is approximately the same. True, replacing the timing belt "Daewoo Nexia" 8-valve is much cheaper than with a V16 engine. By the way, if you remove and change the pump, pay attention to the state of antifreeze. The new contains a large number of additives that increase the boiling point and improve cooling. But over time, they disappear, the antifreeze turns into a simple liquid, which simply does not freeze. And no more positive impact on the engine.
And if you do not change the timing parts?
It is worth noting that on domestic VAZ-2107 cars and the like, not a belt is installed, but a metal chain. And it is much more durable: a resource - at least 100 thousand km. But changing it is problematic: you need to drain the oil and remove the motor cover. A flexible belt in terms of replacement is unpretentious. But its strength is lower - it cannot be compared with metal. And if on the “Daewoo Nexia” the timing belt is not replaced on time, at first nothing bad will happen.
But after some time, the structure of the belt begins to collapse and it simply breaks. And what does this threaten? On all "Nexia", without exception, a break guarantees the folding of the valves. And as a result - an expensive repair of the head of the block with the replacement of several (and best of all) valves. As for the pump, if it is not replaced, fluid will leak. As a result - jamming of the engine. A jammed timing belt will cause the belt to break, you already know the consequences of this.
How to check the belt
In order to check the condition of the timing belt drive on a car, it is necessary to perform several manipulations:
- Remove the air chamber of the resonator in the intake tract. To do this, it is enough to loosen the clamp and unscrew the screw with which it is attached to the intake pipe.
- Using the 10 head, it is necessary to unscrew the bolts (there are 4 of them) that secure the upper front cover of the gas distribution compartment.
- Take the top cover (front) away from the back.
- Now you need to install the gearshift lever in the position corresponding to the 5th speed.
- You need to hang out the front wheel (any) and rotate it in the clockwise direction. In this case, the crankshaft will also rotate, which will allow you to visually assess the state of the belt mechanism.
If there are cracks or other damage on the surface of the belt, you need to purchase a set of spare parts and start repair. Otherwise, you can get more serious damage.
Timing Replacement Preparation
In order to replace the elements of the gas distribution mechanism, you will need to perform several actions aimed at preparing the space. It is worth noting that it will be necessary to dismantle several elements, and most importantly - to install them correctly after replacement.
In preparation, you need to carry out such actions:
- Remove the air filter.
- Remove the belt that drives the alternator pulley and power steering pump.
- Remove the pulley from the power steering pump.
- Loosen the bolts that secure the pump housing to the engine block.
Of course, if the car is not equipped with power steering, you do not need to remove it. And if it is, then first unscrew the bolts (4 pieces) securing the front upper cover of the gas distribution mechanism. Do this with the head at 10. Note that it is more convenient to do all the work with a set of heads and ring spanners.
How to combine tags
And now you need to completely remove the timing belt "Daewoo Nexia" from the engine (16 valves). Work on the eight-valve engine is performed similarly. To crank the crankshaft, you need to use the head on 17. Install it on the bolt securing the pulley of the auxiliary mechanisms. Rotating the crankshaft, ensure that the marks on the camshaft pulley are aligned with the slot that is on the timing cover.
Please note that the mark is between the 5th and 6th prongs, if you count clockwise. It should be located opposite the pointer, which is located on the front cover of the gas distribution mechanism. The bolt of the drive pulley of the additional units needs to be unscrewed - do this using the same head at 17.
Belt removal
Now let's talk about how to finally remove the belt. To do this, completely unscrew the pulley bolt of the auxiliary units. In order for the crankshaft to not crank, you need to use the services of an assistant. He must turn on the fifth speed and press the brake so that the pads close. If you are unable to unscrew the bolt (which is quite likely), you can try to lock the flywheel.
Now you need to remove the bolt and washer, and then remove the pulley completely. Check that the marks on the pulley and rear cover match. If the phases are set correctly, then on the crankshaft gear the mark will be on the slot in the rear cover. Now you need to remove the front cover - for this, unscrew the three bolts of fastening with a head for 10. After that, you can loosen the belt tension - turn the bar with the spring with a screwdriver in the direction of the clockwise movement.
In this case, the hole in the bar should coincide with the hole that is on the roller bracket. Insert a pin into these holes. A 4 mm drill or bolt of the same size is suitable. Now you can remove the belt from the pulleys and the pump. Using the 12 head, unscrew the bolt securing the tensioner pulley and remove the latter, since it needs to be replaced.
Installing a new belt
The new video is put in the reverse order; there is nothing complicated about it. And before you put the belt, you need to make sure once again that the installation marks all match. If everything is fine, then you can put a new belt. To do this, its back should be wound behind the tensioner pulley, then put on the pulleys of the pump and camshaft. Eliminate the possibility of sagging the front of the timing belt "Daewoo Nexia".
Now you need to remove the pin previously installed in the holes. Then put the pulley, which drives the auxiliary units, and tighten its bolt. Try cranking the crankshaft a couple of turns. In the event that the labels are shifted, remove the belt and set the valve timing again. Set the remaining elements in reverse order.
