"Wasp" - a gun for self-defense

The wasp traumatic pistol was created in the mid-nineties by the Institute of Applied Chemistry. The developers set themselves the task of obtaining a sufficiently effective means of self-defense, the wearing and application of which would not contradict the current legislation. As a way to implement this task, the creation of a unique cartridge was chosen. As conceived by the creators of "Wasp," the traumatic effect of the bullet was to be achieved not due to the high muzzle energy, but its mass. This approach allowed us to significantly reduce the strength requirements for weapons while maintaining high combat effectiveness.

Security

The new cartridge allowed to abandon the barrel. Its role is played by a long thick-walled sleeve, in which a rubber bullet is pressed. During the shot, the front of the sleeve provides acceleration and directs the flight of the bullet, and the chamber only holds the sleeve. Actually, the Wasp is a pistol, and is classified as a “barrelless self-defense weapon”. Such a constructive solution provides the Ose with increased safety, since it completely excludes the possibility of using live ammunition. In turn, the device traumatic cartridges does not allow you to re-equip them yourself. Any attempt to disassemble the cartridge and remove the bullet leads to failure of the electric capsule and, as a consequence, the entire cartridge.

The design of the barrelless self-defense weapon "Wasp"

The PB-4-1 ML pistol has four charging chambers arranged in pairs, combined in a single aluminum block. The length of the chamber corresponds to the length of the shells, which, as already mentioned above, play the role of trunks. The cartridge unit through a hinge in its lower part is connected to the frame of the weapon. This makes it easy to equip it with cartridges and to extract the spent cartridges by simply turning on and off the axis of the hinge. In the closed position, the cartridge block is fixed with a steel bar. "Wasp" - a pistol with an electric trigger, that is, the cartridge capsules do not work from shock, but from an electric charge. By pressing the trigger, a magnesium-pulse generator is activated , which delivers an electric pulse to the cartridge capsule, after which a shot is fired. A microprocessor built into the handle determines the presence of a finished cartridge in the charging chamber, and an electrical impulse is supplied to it, regardless of which of the four chambers it is in. This ensures a 100% guarantee of a shot after pressing the trigger.

The gun body is made of modern high-strength plastic and is able to withstand large shock loads. "Wasp" - a gun equipped with a laser target designator, powered by a lithium battery. In addition to the LCC, there is a simple open sight located on the upper surface of the chamber unit. The Osa has no fuses.

Cartridges

The 1997 cartridge was equipped with a rubber bullet with a steel core. A metal core was needed to increase the mass of the bullet and so that it could be detected by X-ray in the case of a penetrating wound. Such a bullet weighed 8 grams, and the muzzle energy when fired reached 120 Joules. Based on experience in 2001, the production of new cartridges with a heavier bullet (11.6 g) but less muzzle energy (80 J) was established. In addition to traumatic, NII PH produces lighting, light noise and signal cartridges.

Conclusion

During the time that has passed since its first appearance on the store counter, growing popularity has been constantly accompanying the Osa pistol. The price of cartridges is probably the only, but significant minus of this weapon of self-defense. If in a critical situation the effectiveness of the cartridge is much more important than its price, then in training you have to consider the loss.
