DIY homemade lights

Homemade lamps are a great way to decorate the interior, make it more characteristic, personal and unique. A variety of lighting fixtures give the room a special cosiness and charm. Use your artistic talent and creativity to make this magnificent home accessory.

Incandescent and LED

For the manufacture of home-made lamps, you can use traditional incandescent lamps or more modern LEDs. The second option is more preferable.

A home-made LED lamp has undeniable advantages: it is economical, lasts a long time, almost does not heat up during operation and is safer, so home masters have more opportunities for realizing creative fantasies. The LED consumes a minimum of electricity, so that the lamp can be made autonomous and not use a cord to connect to the network.

Since the energy-saving lamp hardly warms up, plastic, textiles and even plain paper can be used to make stylish shades. Of course, paper lampshades are not durable, but the product does not require significant financial costs.

Electrician

To make a home-made lamp with your own hands, it is best to use a ready-made kit of a cartridge and an already connected cable. In this case, the master will not have to deal with the soldering of wires, and the lamp will turn out more secure.

Cartridge for a homemade lamp

On sale there are blanks for fixtures of various shapes: for home-made table lamps, floor lamps, ceiling chandeliers and wall sconces. It is only necessary to purchase the necessary option in a specialized store, and the rest of the time should be devoted to creating a unique and stylish design. To make a ceiling chandelier with several horns, you need the right number of cartridges with a cable connected.

What to make the leg of a table lamp or floor lamp

The most common material for the production of legs and bases is metal. Plastic and wood are also in demand, but there are more unusual materials. For example, polymer clay provides maximum opportunities for the application of their design talents. It is plastic, and when it hardens, it becomes incredibly solid and durable. Such material can be used to make all kinds of figurines, miniatures of architectural masterpieces, or simple but stylish forms, for example, a slide made of round stones resembling a design from a Japanese garden.

Handmade lamp

Glass and porcelain vases are an excellent preparation for the legs of the future home-made lamp. It already has the correct shape and the necessary stability, you just need to drill a hole for the wire and build a lampshade. You can also use porcelain or wood figurines for this purpose. The former are usually hollow inside, and in a wooden base to drill a channel for the cable is not difficult.

What to make a lampshade

The lampshade material must be combined with the material of which the lamp foot is made. So, porcelain and glass are harmoniously combined with textiles. The fabric should be taken natural, best cotton: chintz, cambric. You can choose a picture to your taste, but it should be suitable for the general style of the interior. Chandeliers with knitted shades look beautiful and unusual. This model can be quickly and easily made with your own hands. A homemade lamp made of wood is also beautifully combined with fabric. To make a stylish wooden sconce, use bamboo: this type of wood remains hollow inside, so it’s convenient to pass wires through it. You can do without a lampshade at all. To create a stylish home-made lamp, it is enough to purchase a decorative lamp in retro style.

How to make a lampshade frame

For the manufacture of the frame will need such materials:

  • aluminum or steel wire;
  • nippers;
  • pliers;
  • Super glue.

Aluminum wire is more ductile, so it is easy to work with, but it is more prone to deformation, so in the process you can damage the workpiece. Work with this material carefully. Steel wire has greater elasticity, retains its shape well, but it is quite difficult to bend. Choose the option that suits your capabilities.

The lampshade frame consists of two rings and several connecting posts. The diameter and shape of the rings determines the shape of the future lampshade. To make the product conical, the lower ring should be wider than the upper. To make the lampshade of the correct cylindrical shape, both rings must be the same. The number of racks can be different: the more they are, the more evenly the fabric will lie. The optimal distance between the racks is 4-6 cm.

Roll the wire into a ring of the desired diameter and cut the end with wire cutters, leaving 4-5 cm for a secure fit. Crochet the ends, connect them and tightly clamp them with pliers. For durability, fix the structure with super glue. In the same way, make the second ring. Cut the wire into sections for racks. The length of the segments should be equal to the height of the lampshade plus 3-4 cm. Bend the edges of the wire, connect with the rings, clamp with pliers and fix with superglue. The frame for the lampshade is ready!

The simplest lamp made by yourself

Novice masters should not experiment with complex forms, for a start it is better to choose something simpler. A homemade lamp made of threads is the easiest option. To make it, you will need a skein of cotton yarn, PVA glue, a round ball and some water.

Thread lamp

Inflate the ball to the desired size, grease it with petroleum jelly or greasy cream. In a small bowl, mix PVA and water in equal proportions, soak the thread with the resulting solution and carefully wind it on a ball in random order. Lay the product on a table covered with foil or polyethylene and allow to dry completely. Pierce the ball with a needle, release air from it and carefully remove from the lampshade. Then put on the cartridge and use as intended.

DIY table lamps, chandeliers and sconces will decorate the interior and add a cozy, homely atmosphere to the atmosphere. However, the creation of home-made lamps is fraught with some difficulties: the use of electrical elements can be dangerous, so you should not take up the job without having sufficient skills in the manufacture of electrical appliances.
