This was due to the fact that it was then that secular humanism began to mean more to people than the gloomy religiosity of the Middle Ages. Origin
This word itself has ancient Greek roots and in the original means "folded in three." This becomes apparent when looking at such works of art. They are paintings consisting of three parts and united by one main. Such work looks like three interconnected sections that hang or stand side by side. So now we know what a triptych is.
However, these may not necessarily be pictures. Bas-reliefs were also made in the form of a triptych.

Story

Modernity
Now this form of works is not as widespread as before. Nevertheless, in our time there are triptychs in the form of a decor element, whose parts are not connected together, but simply hung nearby. You can also find peculiar coloring-paintings by numbers. Triptychs of this kind differ in that they consist of several parts, and on the canvas it is indicated where and in what color to paint it.
