Discharge with blood (causes)

Almost all, even absolutely healthy women, at least once in their life had a discharge with blood. What is the reason for this phenomenon and what should be done in this case? Vaginal discharge with blood is a fairly common problem that many women face. The appearance of such secretions usually immediately scares the woman and forces them to seek the advice of a specialist.

Dill discharge can appear before menstruation and often go into the usual characteristic discharge during menstruation. They can also continue for several days after the completion of menstruation. In this case, do not worry much, since this phenomenon is observed in many completely healthy women. Discharges with blood are also characteristic of women who have an intrauterine device. This phenomenon should also not cause serious concern. Often, blood discharge has a brownish tint (the so-called "spotting"), the occurrence of which is associated with the process of oxidation and decomposition of blood inside the vagina. Normally, peri-menstrual normal discharge has almost no unpleasant odor.

Sometimes minor bleeding can occur in the middle of the cycle (the so-called "bleeding during ovulation") or in women taking various oral contraceptives. In the second case, this phenomenon often occurs: with a lower dose of the estrogen hormone, more abundant secretions are observed. In the event that discharge with blood occurs while taking hormonal contraceptives or while wearing a spiral, you should consult your gynecologist.

Other cases of vaginal discharge that are completely unrelated to the menstrual cycle almost always indicate that some kind of disease has occurred in the woman’s body. Often they are observed during erosion or subsequent cervical cancer. In this case, the discharge often increases after intercourse. At the same time, during intercourse, rather unpleasant pain sensations arise.

Abundant discharge with blood (sudden and single) is often caused by spontaneous miscarriage in the first trimester of pregnancy. Very strong and prolonged discharge occurs during ectopic pregnancy. If the appearance of these secretions in a woman occurs when determining various signs of pregnancy, it is urgent to consult a gynecologist. An urgent examination is also necessary if they appear during the late stages of pregnancy, as they may indicate the onset of premature birth. Slight brownish discharge during pregnancy sometimes indicates slight bleeding from the blood vessels of the cervix. And in this case, it is necessary to conduct an examination and get a consultation from the attending physician.

Often, this type of discharge indicates the occurrence of various gynecological diseases such as acute and chronic adnexitis, endometriosis, polyposis, chronic uterine inflammation (endometritis), nonspecific vaginitis (colpitis), and a number of other diseases. In most of the above cases, bloody discharge has an unpleasant, purulent smell. In case of their occurrence and confidence that they are in no way connected with the menstrual cycle or pregnancy, a complete examination by a specialist will be necessary, since only taking measures to cure the underlying disease will eliminate this symptom. Self-medication in the form of douching or taking anti-inflammatory pills without proper medical advice can lead to serious complications.
