“Turning weak people into strong warriors”
This is the name of one of David Wilkerson’s sermons. Each of his sermons is an appeal to those who need help, who seek a way out of their problem, but do not find a way to solve it. “Cross and knife”
For four months, David Wilkerson walked the streets and preached to adolescents, drug addicts, juvenile delinquents and bandit groups. He holds mass meetings for criminals in Brooklyn. And God, through David's sermons, touched the hearts of lost teenagers and young people. One by one they accepted Christ, little by little the gangs began to disintegrate.
In 1960, Wilkerson created the Evangelism for Teens ministry. Gathered a team. They gave lectures in schools on alcohol and drug addiction and offered great God's love to help. Awakening began. Rehabilitation centers for teenagers began to open.
The Relief Program was based on the Bible. Even the National Government Institute recognized this program as effective, and rehabilitation centers began to open one after another in many cities in America. In Texas, the Wolrd Challenge was created, which has become a center for youth organizations. Its president was David Wilkerson.
Wilkerson wrote the book “The Cross and the Knife” about the events of those years. A film of the same name was later shot.
David Wilkerson. Prophecy
Wilkerson is the author of 30 books. Only a few of them have been translated into Russian, including “The Cross and the Knife,” “If You Are Tired,” “The New Testament with the Cover Removed,” “God's Protection Plan,” and “The Last Call to America.” I would especially like to note the book-prophecy, which was written by David Wilkerson - “Vision”.
The book tells about the future of the countries of the world and about the events preceding the second coming of Christ - 5 calamities that the Lord showed David Wilkerson about the last times. A large number of his sermons are translated into different languages of the world. Wilkerson is the founder of the Times Square Church in New York City, with 8,000 members. The church was founded in 1987, and since then Wilkerson has faithfully served the Lord, traveled extensively around the world, participated in Christian conferences.
Biography
Wilkerson was born on May 19, 1931 in the city of Hammond (Indiana). David's father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were priests. At age 8, David received the baptism of the Spirit (Pentecostal teaching). From the age of 14, Wilkerson read sermons. In college, the Assembly of God received a theological education. In 1952 he became a pastor. Married in 1953. They have four children and 11 grandchildren with Gwen. All children serve in the Church.
On April 27, 2011, David Wilkerson, aged 79, died in a car accident. On the day of his death, he posted a blog post: “Hold fast to faith. Stand on His word firmly. There is no other hope in the world. ”
