The origins of miracles
Saint Panteleimon, an icon with an image of which is found in almost every family seriously professing Christianity, and in every church, has long been a middle name that has become its own - the Healer. The glorious history of a young man who devoted himself to the Lord and endowed with the powerful gift of healing is one of the most interesting and revealing in everyday literature. He was a resident of the Asia Minor city of Nicodemia. He was born in a wealthy family, the head of which was an ardent pagan, and his mother worshiped Christ from her youth. True, she did it secretly - the then new religion was under the strictest ban, and her followers were subjected to severe persecution and severe persecution. However, the future saint Panteleimon mother remembered little - she went early to another world. But the beneficial effect that she exerted on the personality of her son, the seeds of true faith, sown by her on the fertile soil of his soul, were not slow to prove themselves. The father wanted his son to become a doctor - a profession revered and very profitable in Asia Minor. Moreover, he himself, not yet Saint Panteleimon, but just a young man Pantoleon (a pagan version of the name) showed considerable abilities for this profession. But his teacher, the then-famous physician Euphrosynus, shared not only scientific knowledge with the pupil, but also spiritual.
Healer from God
The fact that the Lord noted the young man with his grace and endowed him with wonderful abilities revealed quickly enough. Saint Panteleimon saw a child dying from a bite of a viper. With fervent prayers, with an open heart, he turned to the Heavenly Father - to give him the art of saving the life of a lad. The words were heard - Panteleimon pulled the boy out of the clutches of death, and then this name was fixed to him - the Healer. Pantoleon was soon baptized. He continued to work miracles for the glory of the Lord, and the glory of him, of his amazing gift and possibilities, reached Rome itself. Saint Panteleimon followed the commandments of God. He distributed his wealth to the destitute, did not take money from the poor for treatment, and what the rich patients gave him, he also distributed to the poor and hungry. The Healer’s father initially renounced him. But one day he saw a son heal by the
power of prayer a blind little boy. The shocked old pagan repented of his sins and believed in whose name such unprecedented things do.
Spiritual field
Needless to say, Panteleimon treated not only bodies and physical ailments. He used every opportunity to tell people about Christ, to testify of his love, power and holiness. Naturally, the people deeply respected and respected their doctor. But other pagan doctors lost clients, earnings, and therefore hated a talented young man. One by one denunciations flew to Rome. By order of
Maximilian, Emperor of Rome, a Christian doctor was seized, sent to prison and brutally tortured. But the holy great martyr Panteleimon did not die from sophisticated torture. To put an end to a formidable rival once and for all, the emperor ordered the Healer to be deprived of his head and his body sent to the stake. The command was executed.
However, even after death, miracles continued: the fire did not singe a millimeter of the body of the saint. It was secretly buried by Christians, and Panteleimon himself remained to live - in the memory of the people as a great martyr, the hope of all the sick and weak. Memorial Day is celebrated by all believers on August 9.
