The Crimean peninsula is famous not only for the beauty of nature, unique historical, architectural buildings, sweet wines and juicy fruits, but also for amazing riddles, no one has yet found an explanation for. One of these secrets is the Karadag snake, a creature that lives in the waters of the Black Sea.

Another "father of history" - Herodotus - mentioned in his writings that in the depths of the Black Sea, or, as the Greeks of those times called it, Pontus of Euxinus, there is a huge monster that catches up with the movement of the wave. The Karadag snake has repeatedly appeared to sailors. So, the Turks, regularly sailing in the Crimea and Azov, wrote reports to the Sultan about the dragon. According to eyewitnesses, the creature had a length of about 30 m, was covered with black scales, and a crest fluttered on its back, resembling a mane of a horse. Her movement was swift, she easily left behind the fastest ships, and the wave created by her was like the one that occurs during a storm. People who inhabited the coastal zone were also familiar with the sea reptile firsthand, which was reflected in fairy tales and myths.

Of course, all this worried inquiring minds. Several expeditions were sent to search for this strange beast, but the Karadag snake was in no hurry to show itself to people, but it was possible to find a truly gigantic egg. Scales showed that the weight of the "testicle" was 12 kg! After breaking the shell, a dragon germ was discovered inside. For several millennia, residents and guests of the peninsula have claimed that one way or another they met this obscure and unknown resident of sea waters. And I must say that among the eyewitnesses there were well-known and serious individuals who there is no reason not to believe. They include the director of the reserve, geologists, poet, official of the local executive committee, and the military. It is clear that these people are educated and most likely not prone to hoaxes and fabrications. In different years, the Karadag snake not only caught my eye, but also left material facts confirming its existence. Crimean fishermen had to pull dead dolphins from the torn nets with traces on the body of a huge jaw, the size of which was about 4 cm. Not only soft tissues, but also bones and ribs of a mammal were torn out, which demonstrates the monstrous power of a feathered predator. Scientists who sent the dolphin's corpse for research said that they do not yet know such a creature that could have imprints of such teeth. The Karadag monster was also seen by submariners. This happened during the immersion of the Bentos-300, a laboratory operating in depth. Having reached a dive level of 100 meters, the hydronaut saw an obscure shadow on the right side of the ship. A giant snake swam to the porthole, wriggling slowly, as if studying people with its small eyes. However, as soon as scientists decided to shoot it in the photo, the monster, as if reading their thoughts, rushed into the depths.

At the moment, there is no official evidence that the Karadag snake is a real creature, it seems that it feels that they are looking for it, and goes into the depths of the sea at the slightest attempt to shoot it with video or camera equipment. Perhaps the expedition could clarify the situation, but such events require financial investments, which neither officials, scientists, nor private individuals are in a hurry to do. The waters of our planet so far firmly keep their secrets - Loch Ness, Karadag, and other water monsters do not seek contact with people.
