Gomel College of Railway Transport is one of the most popular educational institutions in the city. Here you can get a highly qualified education and after graduation work in the environment of railways. Competent teachers, excellent teaching and a competent student development plan - this is what attracts more and more students to the Railway College in Gomel.
First stages
Before you delve into the features of the college, I want to study the history of creation, which turned out to be very rich and interesting. At the end of the 19th century, the construction of the Libavo-Romny railway required the training of specially trained engineers. The only way out of this situation was the creation of the first technical school in the city.
In October 1878, a specially designated building was chosen by the teaching council of the Gomel Technical School, which became the training place for future engineers. The opening date can be considered the date of October 30, 1878. It was at this moment that the first classes began.
Three years later, the world saw the first 11 Gomel engineers who first graduated from college. Over the next 20 years, an average of 25 people left the walls of this educational institution, and since 1900 the number of graduating engineers has increased by 10 people. Pupils worked as telegraphists, railway officers and locomotives.
In 1906, there were changes in leadership positions, and Petr Stepanovich Harchenko became the head of the school, who was a mechanical engineer by training and was more than anyone else well versed in the most relevant profession.
Active development
In 1912, the future Gomel railway college moved to a building that was clearly superior in size to the previous one. This was due to the fact that the college opened up more and more specialties. One of the most popular was the mechanical compartment, the first set of which was opened in 1917.
In 1924, 6 girls entered the lists of applicants. At that time it was considered normal if a girl wants to master a male specialty. But the entrance test was not so easy. As a result, only one of all the females came. Lucky was Chernonog Vera Ivanovna, who began training in the mechanical department.
In 1929, the college of railway transport again changed its location and until 1936 was on the site of the future Belarusian State University of Transport. In 1933, the college added two more popular specialties, the students of which were engaged in railroad cars and communications.
Three years later, the technical school passed under the leadership of the Belarusian Railway and has already changed its location 4 times - this time for good. Railway College in Gomel is now located on Sovetskaya Street, almost in the very center of the city.
College during World War II
At the beginning of the war, absolutely all students and teachers went to the defense of their hometown. With great forces they gathered the 2nd battalion of the people's militia and, along with the Red Army, fought against the Nazi invaders. The director of the Railway College - Kuntsevich Nikolai Nikolaevich, who led the battalion during heavy battles, was especially courageous. He heroically died in August 1941 during the defense of Gomel.
November 27, 1943, after Gomel was completely liberated, all the people who were at least somehow connected with the technical school, restored the destroyed buildings on their own. On December 10, after active construction work in the building on Sovetskaya Street, classes began again.
In the middle of 1964, a dormitory was built near the college, where nonresident students settled. And a little later, another was built, where only girls were settled.
Over the next three years, the main building was rebuilt and another completed. By the end of 1974, the Gomel Railway College took its final form when a new educational building was completed to the main building.
The reform
In subsequent years, the educational institution underwent a series of reforms with official renaming. In 1999, the institution adopted the name "Gomel College of Railway Transport of the Belarusian Railway", and literally after 8 years, one word was replaced by an order of the Ministry of Education, and the college became a college.
Due to financial difficulties encountered on the Belarusian Railway, all railway branches were given over to the Ministry of Education, and Gomel Railway College became a branch of the Belarusian State Transport University.
Specialty
The specialties of the Gomel Railway College are very diverse. The applicant can choose a profession related not only to trains and wagons, but also to be engaged in automation and communication, traffic management in rail transport, accounting or economics. Also on the roads of the CIS are many conductors of the Gomel Railway College. This is due to the fact that the institution conducts recruitment for guides, which can be mastered in just a couple of months. Grant passing points to the Gomel Railway College in strength to any person who in good faith prepared for entrance tests before entering.
Leisure
In addition to training, anyone can attend hobby groups and electives, where teachers will be happy to talk about additional skills that a specialist needs.
Modern equipment and simulators will make this process even more fun, and during training you can really feel in the train cabin.
For many years, Railway College has been a winner of various competitions, so sports clubs will welcome anyone in many sports.
