Before drawing a bird, let's decide what kind of bird we want to see on our piece of paper. The bird kingdom is diverse, sometimes very peculiar specimens are found among its representatives.
The one everyone knows
We will focus on how to draw a bird called a sparrow. This is a close neighbor of a person who knows how to adapt perfectly to any conditions. A brownish-brown body, white cheeks, a short perky beak, black beads of the sparrow's eyes are familiar to everyone, but to recreate this bird by means of graphics on a piece of paper, you will have to try.
First sketch: geometry
Consider how to draw a bird with a pencil, in stages. In the drawing it will be important to show the shape and texture of our model. Let's start with a sketch of geometrical figures, which then turn into a sparrow’s body.
We place the vertical half-inclined large oval in the center, draw a circle on top of it, and a right triangle leg in the back. There should be enough space around these figures for details, with which we will then supplement the drawing. The lines should be light, no need to click on the pencil.
Create a bird outline
The next step in how to draw a sparrow bird is to skillfully outline the contour around the created shapes. With a contour line, we combine the bird's head with the breast and back. From the acute angle of the triangle at the back, we will depict a long, feathered tail slanted at the end. From the center of the oval to the base of the tail, draw a straight dividing line for the wing. Under the oval with two semicircular lines we outline the legs of the sparrow.
Working on the details
Now you can use the eraser to delete the initial sketch from geometric shapes and draw more confident pencil lines around the outline of our little sparrow. Let’s spend some time drawing the feathered legs. If before drawing a bird, carefully studying the structure of the sparrow's legs , we will see that they look like straight short and thin sticks with knotted articular “fingers” -nails, with which the bird is successfully held on branches.
Then we focus on the head of our model. In the center of the circle we draw a black eye with a glare of light, opposite it we will depict a beak. The upper part should look wider than the bottom. We outline the plumage ornament on the breast and on the back of the head of the bird.
Soft feathers
Next we will create the texture of the feathers. Sharp zigzags denote them under the wing. They will be rounded, resembling a fan. Shade the tail and the part adjacent to it is more dense. In the same way we shade the tips of the wings. We put a weak hatching on the bird’s breast, and leave some places unpainted. Leaving the cheeks white, densely extinguish the head of the sparrow. The glare on the feathers of the wings and the head will create the effect of light and shadow, and therefore will make the picture more realistic.
Add color
Having seen from our own experience how to draw a bird, applying black and white hatching in stages, we can try to color the sparrows with colored pencils or watercolors. The principle of the image will also be based on the right combination of light and shadow, we only need to choose the right shades of black, brown, gray, yellow and brown. The head, wings and tail of the sparrow are brownish-brown; a small yellowish-white strip lies at the base of the wing. Breast, tummy and legs alternate dark and light gray shades. It is best to draw a sparrow not from memory, but from nature. It is easy to find in photographs or just look out the window.
At the final stage, create a background for the bird that pleases the eye. Sparrow can sit on a tree, on the site of a bird feeder or enjoy the blue sky and the luster of the warm sun on the roof of the house.
