Alison began her own musical career in 1995 with the Florida punk rock band Discount, which fell apart in 2000. After that same year, she became the co-founder of The Kills with British guitarist Jamie Hins. Mosshart has a stage name VV, and her partner is known as Hotel.

In early 2009, the musician joined the band The Dead Weather, which was created by Jack White in conjunction with Jack Lawrence and Dean Fertita.
