Serpukhov is one of the oldest cities in Russia. The first references date back to 1339. The city attracts visitors not only with historical monuments, but also with churches. Trinity Cathedral of Serpukhov is one of the oldest temples. The first mention of the structure dates back to the distant 1380. It was this year that a wooden cathedral was built on Cathedral or Red Mountain. Having undergone reconstruction and restoration, the Trinity Cathedral pleases the eye of citizens today.
Story
The Cathedral of the Life-Giving and Holy Trinity, located in the city of Serpukhov, is one of the oldest temples. The cathedral was established in 1380 on Red Mountain. Initially, the temple was built of wood. And already on June 15 was consecrated.
By the middle of the 16th century, Trinity Cathedral was completely replaced by a stone structure. In 1669 there was a fire, the temple was almost completely burned down. For 30 years, the cathedral stood in ruined condition. But already in 1696 a decision was made by the archimandrite of the Moscow Spaso-Andronikov Church in Feodosia to restore the Trinity Cathedral of Serpukhov. Due to severe damage during the fire, the temple had to be replaced with a new one. Currently, parishioners can see the building exactly in 1696.
In the 17th century, Trinity Cathedral was completely demolished. But already in 1837-1841, the renewal of the historical monument began. During the work, the octagon and bell tower of the cathedral changed. It was also decided to erect a side chapel of Myrklic Nikolai.
Since 1930, the Trinity Cathedral of Serpukhov has completely ceased its activities. And the room was completely transferred to warehouses. This is due to the Bolsheviks coming to power. The ministers of the cathedral fell under repression, and valuables and artifacts were stolen.
Since the 1960s, interest in the historical monument has been renewed. And restoration work began. But there was not enough finance, the cathedral was in a dilapidated state.
And in 1985, Trinity Cathedral was retrained in the Museum of Local History. Museum workers carried out cleaning, began small work on the restoration of the temple. This saved the Trinity Cathedral from complete destruction.
In 2003, September 21, in the Trinity Cathedral of Serpukhov, the first service was held, lighting with water. And in 2017, work began on the restoration of the historical monument. The difficult road that the “Trinity Cathedral” in Serpukhov “walked”, historical photos, nevertheless, have been preserved.
September 21 is a memorable date. This day is the day of victory in the Battle of Kulikovo, the day of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. For residents of Serpukhov, September 21 was the day of the city.

Serpukhov is located literally 100 km from Moscow. Therefore, you can get to the Trinity Cathedral in several ways:

Restoration
In the summer of 2017, the Trinity Cathedral of Serpukhov began to be actively restored. Over the course of one and a half years the following works took place:
- restoration of the bell tower;
- a new gilded cross is installed;
- emergency operations near the altar were completed;
- held electrician;
- restored walls;
- laid new tiles on the floor;
- the windows are changed.
During the restoration, important goals were set. One of which was the supply of gas, water and electricity not only to the Trinity Cathedral of Serpukhov, but also to the outbuildings. Also, the main point in the restoration of the Trinity Cathedral was the construction of a boiler room. Thanks to the work done - heating, the walls of the cathedral are audible, the restoration of the temple does not stop even in the cold season.
The relics of the abbots are buried on the territory of the temple, for example, a tombstone of the former clergyman of the church, clerk Athanasius, was placed.

Monks have no opportunity to carry out restoration work on their own. Therefore, the employees of the cathedral turned to parishioners and entrepreneurs for help. Donations to the cathedral and restoration was carried out. All work was carried out under the strict control of Dmitry Zharikov, the head of Serpukhov.
