What is an EGR valve, and is it worth it to jam?

Many motorists believe that the EGR valve must be turned off. But others are sure that this is not worth doing. Let's understand what this system is.

The recirculation system (EGR) often fails and causes instability of the engine at XX. In some cases, due to such a malfunction, the car may simply “stand up” at the traffic light. Naturally, such problems do not bring any joy. And not all masters can cope with this disaster. Many are accustomed to "treating" standard malfunctions when the engine troits, twitches or does not start. Damage to the USR is a very difficult problem to solve, which can be disguised as a misfire or “pretend” to be a suction of abnormal air. At first, the engine may start up normally and work well, but it will soon produce strange interruptions. Therefore, diagnosing a system failure is not easy. And not every workshop has equipment for checking the USR.

What is the USR for?

Its initial vocation is environmental protection. Part of the exhaust gases is directed into the cylinders through the nozzles of the system, due to which the combustion temperature and, accordingly, the amount of CO2 are reduced. But not everything is so perfect, the Achilles' Heel of this magnificent system is the USR valve. Many believe that this part is not needed at all, but it is constantly interrogated by the "brains" of the machine and affects the injection system. Therefore, if you simply disconnect the terminal from this part, the on-board computer will be tormented by complaints of an engine control error. In addition, the operation of the motor will be adjusted taking into account the "malfunction", which will lead to an increase in diesel fuel consumption, loss of power and other "charms". But there are options. In some cars, control occurs through the USR solenoid valve and vacuum from the intake manifold, and in others, based on data from the coolant temperature sensor and other sensors.

Symptoms of valve failure

This is usually expressed as jerks when driving at low speeds. Power may be lost and consumption may increase. But the most reliable indicator is the corresponding error.

How and why can I turn off the EGR valve?

First about the goal. They shut off the valve so that soot and exhaust gases do not flow back into the manifold. As a result, more pure oxygen enters the cylinders, and the fuel burns better. Many come to the decision that it is worth drowning the EGR valve after several cleanings. Usually, environmentalists only need to look a couple of times at a not-so-pleasant substance adhering to the valve to understand that they don’t want it to fly back into the intake manifold.

To close the EGR valve, the photo of which is no longer pleasing to the eye, you need to unscrew the bolts and remove the gasket. Next, cut a new blank gasket from a sheet of steel in its shape, in which there should be only 2 holes for the bolts. Now put both gaskets in place. You can also disconnect the vacuum hose.

Many car owners note that after such actions the turbojam disappears, smokiness disappears with sharp acceleration, uphill and higher revs, the dynamics and the amount of positive emotions improve.
