Peugeot 5008 - a family car class from the French automaker Peugeot. From 2009 to 2016, it was produced in a 5/7-seater minivan body. Since 2017, under this name, a mid-size crossover has been produced. A distinctive feature of the model is a comfortable high landing of the driver and passengers.
First generation
In the mid-2000s, Peugeot decided to strengthen its position in the automobile segment for large families. As a basis, it was decided to take a roomy one-volume minivan with a high landing. This type of car is very popular in Europe due to its versatility and practicality.
It was decided to hold the presentation of the new model at home. In the fall of 2008, at the Paris Motor Show, everyone could see the Peugeot 5008 in person.
Front view
The appearance of the model did not disappoint. Fashionable body frames, attention to detail, the use of interesting design solutions create the image of a modern car, far from the usual ideas of a family minivan.
The front of the Peugeot 5008 is very expressive. A large grille framed by a wide chrome border resembles either a smile or an open mouth of an exotic fish. Head lights, as if flowing from the sidewalls to the hood, look especially impressive in motion. The segmented bumper has a complex shape, containing an additional radiator grill and fog lights hidden in niches.
Back view
The layout of the rear is thought out to the smallest detail. The threshold is made very low, while it has a protrusion in the form of a step. Shipping luggage for travel is very convenient. The taillights, like the front ones, float on the side of the body.
A respectful feature of the model is its large glazing area. The interior of the cabin is filled with light, while unobtrusive, because most windows have effective tinting. A nice bonus is the panoramic roof that turns the car into a kind of aquarium.
By the way, the car has high aerodynamic performance for its class. The drag coefficient is 0.29 units.
Interior
The Peugeot 5008 philosophy is very simple to describe: comfort, comfort and once again comfort. About the abundance of sunlight and excellent visibility has already been said. Another important element that forms a cozy atmosphere are the chairs. They are comfortable and tall. The driver, as if on a truck, looks up at the traffic situation. Virtually no blind spots. Rearview mirrors are wide, informative.
Engineers tried to redesign the driver’s workplace. The special design of the seat and steering wheel, oriented almost perpendicular to the floor, allows you to choose the most comfortable fit. The dashboard is also oriented towards the driver. It takes a minimum of effort to reach the desired button.
Design and technical stuffing are more than modern. Here, there are high-quality finishing materials with an abundance of chrome, and armrests on both sides, and cup holders, and climate control. The dashboard is represented by a contrast projection display. The highly located touch screen display of the on-board computer and navigation system is convenient for viewing.
Second generation
The official photos of the new Peugeot 5008 rev.2 were published on September 7, 2016. And it was not a minivan. A little later, at the Paris Motor Show, potential buyers could take a closer look at replacing the first generation. A muscular taut mid-size crossover appeared before the public.
Judging by the classification of the model, this is still a family car with a high landing of the participants in the movement. As a nice addition - a higher cross-country ability and a sturdier body. The appearance shows continuity with the previous generation: all the same swift head optics, a sufficiently large glazing area, taillights floating on the sides. The dashboard, by the way, has not changed much.
Characteristics
Peugeot 5008, as follows the family crossover, added in size:
- the width was 1.84 m (+1 cm compared to the first generation);
- length - 4.64 m (+11 cm);
- height - 1.64 m (no change);
- wheelbase is 2.84 m (+11 cm);
- ground clearance - 23.5 cm.
The range of power units is represented by two diesel engines and two high-performance gasoline engines for every taste. The latter are turbocharged and give a good power for a small volume: 130 liters. from. (1.2 L) vs 165 L from. (1.6 L). Diesel engines have similar capabilities: 120 l. from. (1.6 l) and 150 l. from. (2 L).
As a gearbox (depending on the engine) are used 6-speed "mechanics" or "automatic". Interestingly, four-wheel drive is not even provided optionally. Only the front wheels push the car forward. Production is carried out at two large assembly sites: in France at the PSA plant in Rennes, and in China at the Dongfeng-PSA plant in Chengdu.
The car has been widely recognized in the world, including in Russia. Peugeot 5008 is a frequent guest on domestic roads. Moreover, both in the back of a minivan and in a crossover. The latter, incidentally, is not cheap. Its price varies between 1900000-2300000 rubles. Two types of engines are still available as a power plant: 150-horsepower gasoline and diesel. They are paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
