College of Music in Vologda: address, opening hours, teachers and admission conditions

“Where are you, my dark-eyed, where? In Vologda, where-where-where, in Vologda-where, in the house, where the carved palisade "... The song about Vologda is familiar to all Soviet people, but not everyone knows that this city is much more closely connected with music than just a song- smash hit. In Vologda, there is an excellent college of music, out of the walls of which ... However, who exactly comes out - as well as about the institution mentioned above in more detail - we learn from the material below.

How it all began

The history of the Vologda College of Music is rooted in the early twentieth century. Exactly one hundred years ago, in 1919, at the Vologda Proletarian University, the People's Music School opened. Its creators were five young people, musicians (violinist, composer, cellist, pianist, piano teacher and lead vocalist), who came from two metropolitan regions - St. Petersburg and Moscow. Having received the appropriate education there and ending up in Vologda, they decided to organize their own music school there. No sooner said than done: in February, the Krasniy Sever newspaper published a small announcement about the opening, and already in April, the People’s School of Music opened its doors to everyone.

But there were many who wanted to, and a successful start resulted in further successful work. The performance of the new music school was high, and just two years later, it was reorganized into the State Music School of the second stage (that is, designed for adolescents). However, to deal only with children still seemed insufficient, and therefore, after a couple of years, the Folk Music School turned into a music college with the first-stage children's music school attached to it.

It was a real breakthrough! After all, what is Vologda in those years? The usual "provincial" provincial town, without an abundance of concert halls, philharmonic societies, conservatories and all that would not surprise a resident of the capital. The newly formed music college in Vologda has become not only an educational institution (from which, by the way, many musicians and performers who later became famous) came out, but also a certain concert venue that introduced the townspeople to music - its various forms. Soloists and choirs, classical and jazz - that just didn’t sound from the stage of the technical school, whose leadership, not being completely satisfied with the presence of its own institution in Vologda, managed to open a working philharmonic society there. In general, with the advent of the College of Music in Vologda, a real musical upheaval took place.

Further life in the twentieth century

In the thirties, the Vologda College of Music was turned into a regional educational institution; almost immediately it was renamed again - it began to be called the regional music school. During the war years, most male employees and many students went to the front, and after those terrible years, the life of the music school began to slowly return to its usual peaceful course.

Since the sixties, new areas of training began to open, including the theoretical department (previously, the educational institution trained only practitioners). In the late sixties, the school received a new building, which it successfully moved to, and almost at the very end of the last century it acquired its own dormitory - albeit in an extremely sad dilapidated state. They were able to make repairs in the building on their own, and today the hostel of the Vologda College of Music is open to its temporary residents.

Vologda College of Music today

Today, a music educational institution in Vologda is a separate educational complex, on the basis of which both a music school for gifted children and a school of pedagogical practice function. The institution has its own concert hall, objectively considered one of the best in the entire district, as well as a huge fund of musical instruments, which is constantly updated. New College of Music Concert Hall

The new century brought changes to the Vologda College of Music regarding the name: in 2006 it became a college, and four years ago, as a result of another reorganization, the Vologda College of Music turned into a regional college of arts (however, many continue to call it the usual old name to this day).

The institution lacks its own creative teams as well, because without them, no cultural institution can be fully named as such. Several beautiful orchestras of various kinds (brass, pop and so on), several choirs - these collectives of college students are known and loved by the whole of Vologda.

Specialty

Today, you can enter the Vologda College of Music in any of the eight specialties available in it. These are acting, music theory, sound engineering, pop art, solo and choral folk singing, choral conducting, vocals and instrumentalists. The latter is divided into four directions - you can choose either the piano, or strings, or wind and percussion instruments - or the instruments of the populist. At the end of this specialty, you can work in any orchestra, be a accompanist, and, of course, a teacher.

The vocal department at the college is one of the oldest, it has been functioning since the twenties of the last century. Most of the students after graduation continue their studies at the conservatories in order to have the opportunity to leave to work abroad in the future. Some return to their native land as a vocal teacher. Private schools can also be opened.

Choral conducting is also one of the first specialties of the People’s School of Music, but acting started in college only seven years ago, this is the “youngest” direction of training. As mentioned above, the theoretical department as a separate, independent direction has been functioning since the sixties, however, the disciplines related to this specialty were taught at the college before - from the very moment of its opening in 1919. The sound engineers at the institution have been training for one year more than the actors, and there are already twelve years of pop singers (both songwriters and instrumentalists). As for the choir singers, this branch stood out from the choral conducting in the late seventies of the last century, as the need arose to develop and preserve folk singing traditions.
