How to make the right choice and break the mental deadlock happily

There are people who are panicky afraid of something to choose. When they have several options for answering a question, even if it’s very simple - for example, which cheese to buy, “Dutch” or “Russian”, they begin to get nervous and recall nostalgically the times of the Soviet deficit, when the answer to a painful dilemma was the following: "The one that is in the store." Surely you saw such people in a supermarket: there are two types of goods in your hands, flour on your face, and the question of how to make the right choice is read in your eyes And these people are sorry. Not so much because they can make the wrong decision, but so much because no matter what purchase they make, they will still leave the store in a bad mood. They will be hungry for a long time to doubt that having bought "Dutch" (or "Russian") cheese, they lost.

Sometimes, or rather, almost always, we have to choose between several options for more complex tasks than just buying one of two types of cheese. And more serious things are at stake. For example, where to invest? Do I agree with the proposal to connect my fate with this or that contender for the hand and heart? Should I apply for this job? Or, with a full breakdown at work, decide which tasks to do and which to donate? How to make the right choice in such a situation?

Let us analyze the very mechanism of the painful thought process, when we need to stop at something, and to abandon something. First of all, we are worried about the fact that what we stop at will ultimately disappoint us. At the same time, greed is crushing (albeit so far unconscious): after all, the second option is also welcome, we already consider it “ours”, and now we must take it away from our hearts! We wrinkle in indecision and envy those for whom to make the right choice is not a problem. Meanwhile, our hesitation before making an important decision is a completely normal phenomenon. The people who came to the store quickly grabbed the goods and rushed to the checkout with him, in fact, there was no choice: they either knew exactly what they had come for or simply obeyed the momentary impulse “I want it”.

There are several simple techniques that will help you decide how to make the right choice. The first is analytical. Let's put up with the fact that we are not soothsayers (otherwise, we would always buy a winning lottery ticket and earn a fortune on a sweepstake). But "buying a pig in a poke" is also not worth it. We identify the criteria that are inherent in both options. For example, we have such an option: two pairs of boots. We make a sign in the mind (it can also be on paper), where in two columns there will be option A and option B, and in the columns there are such criteria: suitable size, nice color, fashionable style, combined with other parts of the existing wardrobe, price. Put “checkmarks” regarding options A and B. Which product will pick up the most “checkmarks”, take it.

If you are dealing with more complex matter than boots, try to find more information about the two options in order to calculate the possible risks and make the right choice. Feel free to ask your loved ones for advice, search for more information on the Internet. If you need to prioritize your work, think about it: what future complications will result in not completing a task? Perhaps the failure to do these things will make irrelevant exactly what you decided to undertake?

Another way to make the right choice is to follow your intuition. It’s not for nothing that folk wisdom says: “Morning is wiser than evening.” Take a break, do something else. The decision will ripen in you by itself. If your intuition is taciturn, the next morning you remain in a stupor, try talking to her. Flip a coin into the air, thinking that if the eagle is option A, and if the tails is option B. This does not mean that you should rely on the blind drop of the coin. Carefully analyze your emotional state, no matter which side the coin falls. Joy? Annoyance? Listen to this inner voice, and no matter what you choose, you will be satisfied.
