Every car owner is familiar with a process such as puttying a car, which is done to eliminate bumps and scratches. Also, putty helps keep the car from the negative effects of rust. The most difficult stage of the process is the final surface treatment.
Finishing putty of the car requires a lot of effort in order to achieve the desired result. Sometimes motorists have to sandpaper a bumper, a door or other body parts after sanding with sandpaper. But it is precisely on how correctly you prepare the surface that the time spent on the final processing (i.e. grinding) of the putty will depend. In this article we will tell you how to putty the car according to all the rules.
Preparatory process
Putty begins with surface preparation. First you need to thoroughly clean the paintwork with alcohol or gasoline. These
two substances will help you remove unnecessary dirt from the surface and degrease future putties. But in no case do not use water with powder, as this will only aggravate the situation! After cleaning, you will see all the small cracks that need repair. Thus, you not only degrease the surface, but also recognize the boundaries of the defective area with all chips and cracks. Next, you need to apply
sandpaper. It is advisable to use coarse-grained sandpaper (by its properties, it cleans as much as possible all sharp metal sections). Do not forget about rust, especially if the term of your car exceeds the age mark of 10 years, since you can putty only whole areas of the car (that is, those that are not subject to corrosion). Otherwise, all the work will go, as they say, down the drain - the primer will crack, and the putty will simply fall off over time. After preparation, you can proceed directly to the putty process.
How to puttying a car? Apply the first layer
All types of putty existing today can be divided into several types. It can be finish, draft and universal. The first coat is recommended to be applied using coarse putty, i.e. rough. The whole process is done with a rubber spatula. This layer should be applied using a hardener, which is often sold with a jar of putty. In the meantime, the layer dries (in time it takes about one and a half to two hours), you can do the alignment. Make sure that at the end, irregularities, bends and bulges do not appear on the iron. You can eliminate them with an ordinary kitchen knife and sandpaper.
How to puttying a car? Second coat
Only after the first layer has finally dried up and has been leveled, it is possible to start applying the second layer. This is done without the use of a hardener, since it is simply unreasonable to putty the machine a second time with the addition of this substance. It is applied in the same way as for the first time - with a rubber spatula. Everything, at this stage you can proceed to the primer.
