Acceptance of applications by domestic dealers for the supply of the latest version of the Nissan Terrano, a review of which is presented in more detail below, started last spring. Even then, experts argued that the model would become one of the most affordable cars in its class on the Russian market. It is noteworthy that the novelty is built on the basis of another popular crossover in our country - Renault Duster.
First generation
In August 1986, the presentation of the debut generation of the Nissan Terrano took place. Reviews of the first owners of the car characterized it as a very economical and comfortable car that could boast of high corrosion resistance. Initially, the model was available only in a three-door version, but in 1990 there was an option with five doors. When developing the frame and the body, the designers paid a lot of attention to passive safety. The creators of the model provided two options for adjusting the suspension: comfortable and sporty modes. Interior design in this generation of the model was, on the one hand, very simple, and on the other, quite ergonomic. The main drawbacks of the interior, experts say, are not the most optimal driver’s landing (despite the presence of many adjustments) and poor ventilation.

At different times, several powerplant options were installed on the model. The largest number of laudations among them was caused by a gasoline “six” of 3.0 liters, which developed a capacity of 130 horsepower. This figure increased slightly at the very beginning of the nineties, when the developers equipped the car with a distributed fuel injection system. The second most popular among buyers of the first generation Nissan Terrano is a 2.7-liter diesel engine that develops 99 horses.
Second generation
The second generation of the model debuted in 1993. It was the result of a collaboration between Japanese designers and Ford representatives. As in the previous generation, the car was originally run only in the back with three doors. Later, the five-door Nissan Terrano was introduced to the general public. User reviews indicated that in the first case, the main problem of the car was a small trunk (only 425 liters). In the second version, this flaw was completely eliminated. The rigidity of the body and its high strength were ensured by the traditional frame structure.

The base for the second generation of the model became two four-cylinder power plants at once: a 2.4-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 124 horsepower and a 99-horsepower turbocharged diesel engine with a volume of 2.7 liters. Expert reviews indicate that the first version of the engine was more frisky, and the second - characterized by high efficiency. As for the transmission, the car was equipped with five-speed mechanics, which is highly reliable today. After 1995, the model has undergone several improvements. During their conduct, the developers not only modernized the appearance of the machine, but also expanded the range of engines. The last restyling of the second generation of cars occurred in 2004. A rather serious drawback of both generations today is the high cost of maintaining the Nissan Terrano. Spare parts for this car can be found without any problems, but they are very expensive, as for other Japanese-made cars.
Third Generation: A General Description
According to representatives of the manufacturer, the third generation of the model is positioned as a machine of a higher class. That is why the designers expanded the list of its standard equipment. All technical stuffing at the same time remained the same. As noted above, the new product is based on the Renault Duster. At the same time, if the French car can be called a vivid example of a budget crossover, the “Japanese” looks much brighter, more attractive and richer. Therefore, the developers are counting on the great success of the model in the domestic market.
Exterior
The new Nissan Terrano stands out from other members of its class with a pronounced aggressive appearance. The massive radiator grille, the "predatory" headlights, as well as the bumper with sharp contours are especially striking. Compared with its main competitor, the car boasts stylish lights and an ennobled rear door, making it look like a complete modern crossover that harmoniously fits into the latest line of the Japanese manufacturer.
As for the dimensions of the new product, its parameters (length, width and height) are 4342x1822x1668 millimeters. The ground clearance is from 205 to 210 millimeters, depending on the type of drive. The machine weighs 1726 kilograms in running order.
Interior
The interior of the latest version of the Nissan Terrano is well thought out. The reviews of the first car buyers became additional evidence that more expensive materials are used in the interior upholstery compared with the previous modification. In addition, the novelty has acquired an improved steering wheel, as well as improved door panels. It should also be noted that even in the standard configuration the rear seat has a folding back. The luggage compartment for the four-wheel drive and basic version of the car is 475 and 408 liters. This figure can be increased several times if you fold the back row of passenger seats.
Specifications
The base for the third generation of the model was a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with distributed fuel injection, consisting of four cylinders. The maximum engine power is 102 horsepower. In the all-wheel drive variant, it operates with a six-speed manual gearbox, and five-speed mechanics are provided for front-wheel drive cars. The minimum fuel consumption, according to passport data, is set at 7.6 liters per 100 kilometers (in the combined cycle). As for the dynamics, in order to reach the speed mark of 100 km / h, the car requires 13.5 and 11.8 seconds.
The two-liter “four”, developing 135 horses, is the top powerplant for the latest version of the Nissan Terrano. Engine characteristics allow you to accelerate the car to hundreds in just 10.4 seconds. A six-speed manual transmission is provided for the car, as well as a four-speed automatic. If we talk about fuel consumption, then in the combined cycle for every hundred kilometers the car requires a minimum of 7.8 liters of gasoline. A diesel power unit for the third generation of the model is not yet provided.
Suspension
Since the novelty is based on the Renault Duster, the suspension characteristics of both cars are almost identical. The only exception to this can be called perhaps a higher ride smoothness of the Nissan Terrano. The reviews of experts indicate that it was achieved due to its individual settings. An independent MacPherson strut design and a lateral anti-roll bar are used at the front. In the back of the machine, developers install a torsion beam semi-independent (on front-wheel drive options), or a multi-link system with coil springs (on versions with all-wheel drive). The all-wheel drive system itself is built on a circuit with a multi-disc electromagnetic clutch that automatically connects the rear wheels when the front wheels slip. It should be noted that a similar device is used in all budget crossovers.
Driving performance
Separate words deserve the driving characteristics of the third generation Nissan Terrano. A test drive conducted on various types of pavement is an additional confirmation that the car is able to smoothly overcome all sorts of major bumps in the road, and generally does not notice small potholes. Engine power is enough for a comfortable and relaxing ride. Along with this, it will be wrong to call a car dynamic. Feedback from users of the machine suggests that when maneuvering at speeds of more than 120 km / h, you need to be especially careful, because it may not be enough dynamics to overtake. The model feels great when driving on dirt, field or gravel road. This applies to cars with all-wheel drive, and only with front-wheel drive. The noise of the engine inside the cabin becomes a little audible only when the tachometer needle reaches 3 thousand revolutions.
Options and cost
In the domestic market, the new Nissan Terrano is sold in four trim levels. The equipment in each of them significantly exceeds the parameters of the French counterpart. This ultimately affected the cost of the car. Comfort equipment became the most popular among domestic consumers. The standard equipment here includes 16-inch steel wheels, an adjustable steering column, two frontal airbags, a multimedia audio system (which also provides wireless telephone connectivity), power accessories, standard sizes spare tire, as well as EBD, ABS and ESP systems. As for the cost of the latest Nissan Terrano modification, the price of a car in the salons of domestic dealers starts from 811 thousand rubles. It should be noted that almost 90 thousand rubles must be paid for an automatic transmission.
