A problem with floating speeds can occur with every car owner. And it doesnโt matter if the carburetor is an engine or injector. The reasons for the sharp jumps in speed can be quite a lot. And today we will consider the situation when the speed on the VAZ-2114 is floating, as well as how this problem can be solved.
Engine ECU
Very often the cause of this trouble is precisely the โbrainโ of the car, that is, the electronic control unit. In the event of a breakdown of any sensor responsible for the proper operation of the internal combustion engine, or when external air enters, the computer cannot give a specific and accurate command to the system, which leads to the occurrence of floating revolutions. In this case, you should go to the service center and diagnose the computer, as it is hardly possible to determine error and fault codes yourself without special tools and devices.
Sensors and their malfunctions
Of course, if the computer issues the wrong commands, then this does not mean that it has failed. The cause of breakdowns should be sought in the following sensors:
- IAC ( idle speed controller ).
- DMRV (mass air flow sensor).
- EGR.
It is because of these details that the most frequent floats on the VAZ-2114.
If all these elements work correctly, you should diagnose the spark plugs and check the condition of the air filter. By the way, sometimes the cause of floating revolutions is not the sensor itself, but its electrical wiring.
Why are floating speeds on the VAZ-2114? Diagnosis of IAC
First of all, we check the IAC sensor. On domestic cars, it is installed on the throttle body near the throttle position sensor on two mounting screws. To check its performance, we need to prepare a multimeter. First, turn off the ignition, then disconnect the block with the wire from the sensor and use our device to measure the resistance level between the contacts of the regulator. Under normal conditions, this value is 40-80 ohms. If the readings you received do not correspond to the norm, most likely the regulator has malfunctioned. In this case, it must be replaced.
DMRV
The next in line for verification is the mass air flow sensor.
It is he who is a frequent reason why the revs float on the go. To check it, we will also use a multimeter. Here we measure the voltage between two contacts - the DMRV connectors, to which the green and yellow wires are suitable. During diagnostics, the engine must be turned off and the ignition turned on. The multimeter should show a value from 0.999 to 1.02 V. If the readings do not justify the norm, this indicates a malfunction of the DMRV.
EGR valve
This device is an exhaust gas recirculation sensor . The EGR valve directs a portion of these gases to the combustion chamber of the engine, thereby increasing the likelihood of complete combustion of the fuel and, as a result, a reduction in the level of toxic substances released into the atmosphere. By design, this part is very simple, but very often problems arise with it.
If you do not periodically clean the valve seat and its seat, you can soon expect unstable motor operation. This is the main reason why the engine turns on the VAZ-2114. If you have not cleaned this element for a long time, you should carefully treat the contaminated area with an aerosol to clean the carburetors. In this case, do not allow the substance to fall on the diaphragm of the valve.
Why do idle speed float on carburetor engines?
The VAZ-2114 Samara with a carburetor ICE is also not immune from such a problem. This happens, fortunately, not every day, but still. The main reason for this is the incorrectly adjusted or faulty carburetor itself. Also, floating revolutions can be caused by air leakage or a faulty solenoid valve XX. In addition, it is worth checking the air filter for deposits in it.
But most often floating revolutions arise precisely because of improper carburetor adjustment. In this case, you should configure it by correctly rotating the screws of the quality and quantity of fuel.
As for the solenoid valve, it can be diagnosed without removing the power wire from it. When the ignition is switched on, it is enough to touch the contact cord on the valve - a characteristic click should soon appear. If it is not, you can try to touch the contact with a wire that is connected to the positive terminal on the battery. If even after that you did not hear a click, then most likely the valve has malfunctioned. To repair it, you need to unscrew it and clean the nozzle.
So, we found out why the speed on the VAZ-2114 is floating and how to fix this problem depending on the type of malfunction.
