On cars of the classic series, a single-plate clutch of a friction type is installed. Unlike newer car models, a "hydraulic" drive is installed on the "classic", which includes the working and main cylinders. This design is more expensive, but more efficient.

First adjustment step
Adjusting the VAZ-2106 clutch with your own hands can be done after installing the clearance (directly from the passenger compartment) on the pedals. If you look closely at the design of the drive, you will see that it has a bracket on which the cylinder pusher is screwed with a nut.
It is this nut that needs to be loosened and the necessary clearance between the cylinder and pusher set. From here, you can also make adjustments to the pedal free play. After you have achieved a play of a maximum of 2 mm, it is necessary to set the clearance on the working cylinder.
Second adjustment step
To do this, you need to set the pusher stroke on the master cylinder. When adjusting the VAZ-216 clutch, the stroke should not be more than 5 mm. Follow these steps:
- Use a wrench to hold the stop.
- Loosen the locknut by turning it no more than 2 turns.
- Use the wrench to rotate the stop in the direction in which the bracket is located.
- Empirically set the required clearance.
- Tighten the locknut.
- Use a ruler to measure the pedal stroke. If necessary, repeat all the procedures again.
To check the course, you must press the clutch pedal with your hand until resistance appears. Using a ruler, measure how far the GTS pusher has moved.
Measurement of a free course of a pusher
You can also adjust the pedal stroke by adjusting the working cylinder, which is installed near the gearbox. Before adjusting the clutch slave cylinder VAZ-2106, you must make sure that its rod has a large free play. To measure, you need to perform a few simple steps:
- Disconnect the return spring that is mounted on the clutch fork. This will allow you to get rid of unnecessary resistance during tuning.
- Set the ruler so that its edge is at the end of the pusher.
- Press the plug all the way. You just have to do it with your hands, no additional devices are needed.
- Lock the clutch fork in the depressed state.
- Measure the fork free play with a ruler.
Pusher adjustment on the working cylinder
VAZ-2106 clutch adjustment is carried out in the following order:
- Clean all elements from corrosion and dirt. Treat threaded joints with penetrating grease.
- Unscrew the nut that is on the slave cylinder pusher.
- One key must hold the bolt to adjust, and the second loosen the lock nut.
- Lock the pusher so that it cannot turn.
- Empirically adjust the free play and tighten the lock nut.
- Replace the spring.
Check the operation of the entire clutch system, measure the free play of all elements. If it is more than expected and there are failures, you need to repeat the adjustment.
If the setting did not help
If the adjustment of the clutch pedal VAZ-2106 did not bring the desired effect, then the reason for the large free play lies in the basket and disc. It is advisable to install a new kit, which includes:
- Basket (drive disk mounted directly on the flywheel of the crankshaft).
- A driven disk (located inside the basket, connected to the input shaft of the gearbox by a spline connection).
- Release bearing (mounted on the input shaft and driven by a fork).
- Bolts and washers.
After installing all the new elements, it is necessary to adjust the clutch of the VAZ-2106 and make sure that the brake fluid in the system is of good quality and does not contain any impurities. Try to change the fluid at least once every two years.
