A wooden fence is one of the important elements of the architecture of a suburban area. The ease of manufacture and the affordable cost of materials make it the most popular way of fencing. However, despite all its positive qualities, such designs are very short-lived, as a rule, they serve no more than ten years. With the use of modern wood preservatives, the useful life can be increased, but in this case, the fence needs regular maintenance. So, once or twice a year it must be tinted and treated with antiseptics. Often, a wooden fence, built with their own hands, is used as a support for climbing plants, low decorative hedges are also popular, which do not have practical functions and serve only to decorate the site.
Hardwood is used to make such structures. Due to its low cost, coniferous species have also become widespread: pine, cedar, and larch. If you decide to build a wooden fence with your own hands, you should decide which type of these products is optimal for use on your site.
Types of Wooden Fences
Fence This species is the most common. Do-it-yourself wood fence is the easiest. It represents the spans of several boards, which are fixed on the crossbars.
Stockade. The name of this product speaks for itself. This is a series of stakes driven into the ground and located close to each other. For strength, they are strengthened with a horizontal bar.
Board fence. Such a fence made of wood with their own hands is built from boards, which in a horizontal position are attached to pillars driven into the ground. The fence is often decorated with woodcarvings or carvings.
Wattle. Such a fence most often has a decorative function and is made from flexible branches of shrubs or trees.
Bamboo fence. This type of fencing is not used very often in personal plots. The material for its manufacture are bamboo stems, which are very expensive. As a rule, such a fence is used only to decorate the territory.
The easiest way to build a picket fence. Such a fence can make any summer resident. To make it, you will need edged or planed boards, a wooden beam about two meters long, supporting posts, brick and cement for the foundation.
First you need to mark the place for installing the fence. Then, along the selected line, you need to place the support posts. To do this, dig holes about a meter deep, treat the bottom of the columns with antiseptics and install supports in the prepared recesses, fixing them with spacers.
From the boards we make the picket panels. They are attached to the transverse veins. Then the finished panels should be attached to the support posts. The pits for the supports are poured with cement mortar.
Like a metal profile fence, a self-built wooden fence has one undoubted advantage. If one structural element has become unusable, it can simply be replaced without destroying the entire product as a whole.
